  • Presenter talks toooooo much!

As you may know I do like watching the craft shows on the telly and today was no exception. I turned on to QVC hoping to have a lovely couple of hours with Dawn Bibby and what do we get? The presenter talking so much, so fast, so full of stock details, interrupting, talking over and generally spoiling the whole programme. Now I understand they've got to be there but this lady just didn't stop talking the whole time and I ended up turning over. The same happened on the recent craft weekend, not sure if that was Ideal World or not but, once again, there were a couple of lady presenters who just talked non stop about stock updates or just one-upping the crafter! Although there are other lovely lady presenters who let the people do the talking and explaining I find that the male presenters seem happier to let the people do their thing with only the occasional interruption. Dawn Bibby's session is being spoilt by the sales pressure, it's such a shame, as she used to demonstrate much more and now it's just a couple of minutes for each item and then rush on to the next thing. I'll still tune in but not as excitedly as I used to... Grumble over

This is why I have stopped watching the QVC channel love Anna Griffin but I find the programmes hard sell not demonstrations and too much presenter talking. I know these are shopping channels but more often than not the crafter is not and idiot, wants to see what they have to offer and some demos.

Oh I do know what you mean Nettie, I watch Create & Craft a lot, but some of the presenters are so annoying, & go on so much. Yes I know it's a sales channel, but if you actually show us the products and give us demonstrations we're more likely to order I would say.

Im obsessed with the craft channel,my record is watching it 5 hours straight, those decoupage sets they have are fab!!!And I dont even make cards, but I totally see what you mean about the presenters.I was listening to one talk for about 2 minutes non stop and I thought to myself, has she even stopped to take a breath? Then another one starts talking about something embarrasiing her son did at the dentist!!I really dont want to know.
I do prefer the guys on that channel, at least they stick to the subject.

I love Anna Griffin stuff too, actually to call her things 'stuff' was bad really!! Nancy from Diecuts With a View came all the way from America and all she had from the start of her one hour programme to the end was the presenter standing in the way and talking over her. I really had to work hard to blank out her voice! Isn't that bi*chy of me!!! Sorry! I do like Create and Craft because they give the people enough time to show what they're selling and thankfully they now have things pre-prepared to show the various steps because of the time limits. There is one male presenter who is so not crafty, who knocks things over, tries to help out and messes things up...there was also a lady presenter who kept on saying things like 'my kids would love to play with this' or 'this would be good to play with' and again, so not interested or of the thinking that crafting as being an adult occupation and pastime too. I know I've had a moan but I'm grateful really that the programmes exist...I'll just have to stick my fingers in my ears when I hear the voices again

Oooo I was thinking the exact same thing at the weekend - I was watching Ideal world's craft weekend, and that South African presenter? Just talked soo much and was really irating me!

She kept hassling the poor crafter to do demonstrations and then stopping her from doing them as they had no time!

Still, picked up a couple of bargins with the free p & p!

I completely agree. I have three children and although I love to craft with them and they have a special room set aside for it, so many of my friends cannot understand why I won't let them use my work stuff! You can tell sometimes that they see it as quite a childish thing and sometimes comment on the fact I just like to mess about doing nothing!
              It's REALLY infuriating!

Did anyone see The apprentice (series before last) where the apprentices went to a shopping channel. The pressure to sell was huge. At the end of the day that's what they are there for.
We have our own "famous crafter" on here Anice from Funky hand has been on one of the shows several times.
full time mum and very very part time crafter.

Yes, I've watched Funky Hands, her papers and style is lovely, modern and retro at the same time! Soo brave to go on the telly and looked really good too Yep, the South African lady is a tad annoying and I too think Stephanie is a little exciteable, but lovely lady . I'll keep on watching though and having a little moan to myself, hehe. Most times I don't buy anything, it's just lovely to watch the demos and seeing what's trendy and 'in'. Happy crafting everyone
