  • Recycled: Do you use recycled materials?

Well do you? I do sometimes but leather is pretty perishable if not looked after and you really need something over 50 years to get any character to it.
I found this old suitcase at an auction and it was made from i piece of leather so there was plenty to go at even with the rotted bits taken out. Imade 2 bags from it and the pictures are in my album ( you should spot them straight away ). It was nice to be able to bring the leather back to life again. What have you made from recycled material?

Like alot of jewellery makers I recycle as much as possible, I buy loads of bits at car boots just to recycle them and the price is normally pennies rather than pounds.
My work table has huge basket full of necklaces, earrings and bracelets waiting for me and my pliers to be taken apart, I like to think these bits add to my jewellery as many of the bits are not in common circulation.

Nothing beats a good root around in a pile of jewellery early on a Sunday morning

I also re-cycle old jewellery and beads.
I cut out the back panels of our dark red leather suite when we scrapped it as each chair had one single piece and the settee 3 panels which were all in really good condition. I used it to recover an antique chair that had been covered with horrible imitation brown leather. It looks really smart now.

I try to where I can.

My friends think I'm mad at times i'm sure as I'm always grabbing random bits and pieces when out and about to use in my card making, or stopping them from throwing out things they think are rubbish.

I'm currently recycling all the computer paper by my desk by binding them into cute little notebooks. I've found a way to get it so that all the pages are blank, rather than having the printouts on some pages.

MY recyled stuff is called Vintage! Yep, beads and trinkets to be combined into jewellery. My bags are mostly vintage fabrics and chopped up clothes.

I offer a special service with my tiaras and wedding jewellery to incorporate the rhyme "something old something new" by building the tiara around grandmas brooch or other peice of family jewellery.

I love recycling - getting something new from what someone else would throw away or has finished with. Bags, baskets, patchwork, socks .....

I recycle fabric for quilting and other things. I love old lace so can often be seen carefully unpicking frilly bits off old garments and buttons but a lot of folk collect buttons so you have to be early at the charity shops to get nice ones.

I was really lucky to get a jar full the other day. Also, the local college collect scraps from their soft furnishings students for me. I have just started making fabric pictures from them. I will try to post some pics.

                          Yes I recycle too.
I cut up old clothes for the fabric, buy old jewellery from charity shops for the beads, etc.

I also trawl the charity shops for old beads and jewellery to recycle and had to tell you about my latest find.

For the grand sum of only £1, I picked up a multi-strand beaded necklace consiting of 1 row of black glass beads, 1 row of black stone beads, 3 strands of wooden beads in different sizes, shapes and colours and the best of all 1 strand of tiny amber nugget beads. These were held together with 2 huge cone beads about 25mm diameter but not sure what they're made of - they could possibly be lucite but OH thinks they're "resin coated compressed paper".

                            Anyway - that's what I call a good find.

                              ohh well done auntynet.
sadly most of the charity shops near me have over priced themselves and not many bargains can be found there but we have some fab car boots and the real car booters ( not the professional ones who do it for a living) can still offer real bargains. I think my best buy was a pretty 1960s necklace that was full of tiny pastel coloured flowers for 20p.

I love the looking for a bargain as much as getting one
