  • Puzzled??????????

    I already know that I am behind the times with modern slang and abbreviation of words but what on earth does lol stand for?

    It seems that everybody uses it.

        lol! I had an ex boyfriend (hes still my ex btw!) who I dont think entirely grasped the concept of lol, and when something was realy funny, would write lolololol. therefore would say laugh out loud out loud out loud out loud! Or laugh out laugh out laugh out laugh out loud.... not too sure which one! he was strange (Im sure he still is tbh!)

        p.s. btw = by the way
        tbh = to be honest.

          oh another funny story about lol. my sister bought a friend home (their goth/emo types) who instead of laughing, used to nod and say lol. no one knew she did this, and we were all watching friends. Everyone else laughed and she went lol, and we all just stared at her thinking what the hell is wrong with this girl?? She was strange too (but then sos my sister!)

                    Thanks for this. I thought lol meant lots of love. My husband received an email from a male colleague today and it began lol. Which then prompted me to ask the question to the forum. Thank goodness, it doesn't mean lots of love otherwise I think my husband would ask that colleague to go forth and multiply!!!!!!!!!!!!!

                          in uni, i lecturer told us about a docotor in the A&E, who on a friday and saturday night used to assess the drunken patients, send them home, and write in the A&E notes, TTFO. Which is roughly translated to told to...... leave! Needless to say, that is no longer acceptable.
