  • Paul Merton's silent clowns

I just booked a ticket to go see Paul Merton talk about actors like Chaplin, Laurel & Hardy etc and see clips of films.
He did a few tv progs a while back and I enjoyed those so I thought Id treat myself.

Anybody else grow up watching Harold Lloyd,L&H etc?

Well every day is a school day!! How did he get his thumb blown off - was it a stunt gone wrong or some other kind of accident?

        Cheers.

Saw Paul Merton and the full film of the pic above(called Safety Last). The story is he is trying to pull a stunt to get crowds into the shop(to impress his boss) he works at so he ropes a friend in to climb the building, but the friend is in trouble with a cop who keeps chasing him.The friend keeps saying 'you climb a floor then we will swop' but he continues to be chased by the policeman so Harold ends up climbing the whole building.
There was accompanying piano playing throughout the whole film, about an hour and 20 mins!!
Saw other clips of Laurel and Hardy(I had to edit that from my original writing which was Little n Large!!), Chaplin and a genius moment by Buster Keaton.

I loved that one with Harold Lloyd - I loved anything with him in it - brings back memories of my youth.

You sound like you really enjoyed it.

                      Cheers.

It made a change from my usual sunday night.Had to decide between Richard Hammond and old black and white film stars, seeing as Top Gears repeated, I took the risk.
