  • Whoo hoo!

We've lived here for coming up to seven years now, and not once have we had a finch in the garden (well, one landed on the lilac for about two seconds, but that doesn't count). I put niger seeds out this spring, and have kept some out there since. Jon's been all dismissive about it, but it's finally paid off. Two goldfinches, just now. *does happy dance*

    Yay - that is great!

I love sitting in my studio and seeing all the wonderful birds coming into the garden. From my mate 'Buddy' the bluetit (see my blog!) to the wonderful Jay who has been visiting quite regularly this year and all the other little finches and such like. I have a bird book to hand to look up those I am not sure about so I can tell my (mostly disinterested) hubby when he gets home!

Awesome! How exciting! I'm a bird watcher too...used to have a pair of painted buntings that came every year, but not this year, and i'm thinking they didn't come back last year either...sad.

      Congratulations on their arrival!!

It's really made my day, sad person that I am. We've got dozens of house sparrows, the blackbirds, the dunnocks, the odd blue, great, coal and long-tailed tit, a family of magpies who come to bathe in the pond, plus numerous wood pigeons, but there have been no finches of any species, which is odd.
