  • Look what I found!!!

It was sitting on the picnic table, underneath the hummingbird feeder...not moving. The cat was creeping closer...I put a cage top over the little hummer b/c the cat would not stand still for me to cage it.

It's def a baby hummer - male - aren't his throat feathers gorgeous in the sunlight?? I think he got too cold last night. It was about 7.7 again - SO unusual for this time of year.

Or maybe he's injured? He moves his head around.

I'm giving him droplets of sugar water and keeping him warm. He is so beautiful!!!! Bless him, so tiny....if he is up and about later in the day I'll prop the back door open for him to go out whenever he wants to leave.

You're so lucky with all the wildlife in your hood. The most exotic thing we have flying around are parakeets! Plus I get pathetically happy when pigeons sit on the chimney outside my bedroom window and coo

I love hummingbirds, just started using them in my jewellery!

Guess I'm just a bird geek!

WELL, that was fun! I got him to take several drops of "nectar" from a pink plastic spoon. Then he started wriggling around, so I took him outside. He revved his wings and took off - FLOP! He slid down my jacket and latched on to the zipper just before reaching the hem...and suddenly ... THERE WAS THE CAT, IN MID POUNCE!! I struck out and deflected him, grabbed the hummer with my other hand, and ran back inside!!

Hummie was quite shaken, as was I. I gave him a couple more drops of nectar, left him on the table, and went out to cage the cat.

Then I put little Hummie on the picnic table and put the feeder in front of him.

I came in to delete pics from my phone so I could get some video of him, hopefully taking off...but alas, he was gone when I went back out. And yes, the cat is still caged. I searched all around to be sure Hummie wasn't on the floor or amongst the plants.

These pics came out really big - I'll remove them after while and put it all on my blog.

They're just being cats, BUT...please not where I can see, or ever find out about it!! I do find little piles of feathers here and there, so I know he does kill birds. I just try not to think about it. =(

Yes, Sarah, I hope he has a happy and long life, full of flowers!!

I discovered a dead sparrow under our bed this morning

Our cat used to noisily announce that she had caught something but looks like she's turning into a silent assassin.

And I much prefer this photo to the other thing you found today!
