  • What?!! Another postal strike?

Extract from an email at work from 'those in the know' ........

"there is to be another round of postal strikes starting next Wednesday 25 July from 7pm and is projected to last, in one form or another, until Wednesday 8 August unless agreement is reached."

    Alternative methods??

I think you will still recieve post during these dates but they will be working on 'skeleton staff'. It's not the on foot post men kicking up a fuss it's the higher racky in the sorting offices.

I know that the post men don't get paid when on strike and a lot went in on the previous strikes as they couldn't afford not to (my dad being one of them). I am pretty certain that none of them could afford the whole week off.

Apparently they are still suffering a lot of delays this week as a result of last weeks strike, I posted a peg rail and a clock out to two different people on Monday, 1st class, and they haven't received them yet!! I keep getting e-mails from people asking if I cna get some orders done quickly for them for christening gifts etc, and yes I could, but obviously have no control over the postage system!! Very frustrating!!

My postie delivered post last Thursday during the strike - again because he can't afford not to. He's got a very poorly knee at the moment and hobbles on his round bless him, and he fully admits he'd like nothing more than a day off, but as he won't get paid, he carries on. I feel sorry for the "front-liners" - the couple of posties I know locally are really nice, cheery people. I had heard from my postie that there was a strike tomorrow, but don't know if that's just round here, or what?

I had an email from royal mail today saying about the 'staggered strike' that will be starting next week. How am I supposed to run a small business without post? It's going to be a bl***y nightmare as I am launching a new CD this weekend, well I was planning to..

Doesn't make life easy does it. But then again if it didn't effect anyone they would have no bargaining power would they?.
I bet the poor postie who has no control over the sittuation gets a right ear bashing.

The big problem with them striking is it won't generate any public support

Those of us who need to send out orders, or are waiting on supplies, find it frustrating. And in offices that only need send out paperwork, they just look at ways to avoid using the post at all.

                It just irritates people.

Customers that I sent stuff out to beginning of last week are STILL saying they haven't received them. I have proof of postage so at least I can make a claim after 15 days if they don;t turn up, but is very very frustrating as a seller and as a buyer.

Me too since the first strikes began; its a nightmare and a lottery - some people are getting packages as normal and others between 7-10 days later inspite of first class post ! I dont feel like supporting them when this kind of malarky goes on

I didn't realise there was another one! My local post office didn't shut during the last one though - it was open all day so hopefully it might be during this one! Good job I sent out a big parcel today!!

I think its all localised - some sorting offices will not process and other times it will be counter staff not working. Bit hit and miss really....
