I feel like going somewhere - ANY SUGGESTIONS?

Hello folks,

So with christmas over and the recession coming on my feelance work has pretty much dried up and I'm a bit broke and I was thinking of disappearing for a bit (a few months?) until the craft stall money picks up a bit...

Since moneys a bit tight I was considering volunteering (although I'm not ruling out getting paid) but basically I just need a roof over my head and some vege foodstuffs and the rest is a bit up for whatever.

I was thinking about CSV, (http://www.csv.org.uk) I quite like that they just send you somewhere like a surprise destination (mind it might be a naff one) but I dunno.

Anyway I thought I would ask if anyone had any suggestions? I've no idea what's out there really. I should add that I'm a bit deaf so EFL teaching etc is probably out but I have lots of skills in IT/arts etc have done all kinds of stuff including farm and hotel work before...

Anyone got any ideas? All things considered...

I really would like to VSO but unfortunately (and I check back often) they don't seem to really want any of my skills.... am beginning to suspect I should have trained as a nurse.

The New Zealand thing sounds well cool. Do you have a link to the advert? I've had a pretty good surf around though and it looks a little bit like I am slightly too old to get a working holiday visa to go do that (not that I have the cash for a ticket to NZ anyways). Still I have had an exciting time looking through all the skills required. Apparently there is an immediate shortage of Skydive Instructors in New Zealand! Now that does sound cool - I wonder how I can become one of them quickly...!

Go for it, I have never volunteered away from home as I have two young children but have done loads of voluntary work in the community, from working in a kitchen to helping stroke victims and alzheimer sufferers to changing beds on a hospital ward. It is all very, very rewarding and if I wasnt so wrapped up in my crafts and school PTA etc I would go back to the hospital. I loved it and I am sure whatever you do you will love it too.

Ah, Thanks for the links, I've had a look and it looks a little bit like I am about 2 weeks too old to go on a working holiday fruit picking in NZ!!! Argh! Should've sorted my life out sooner...

Do you have a PGL outdoor activity centre near you? I know they have centres all around the country, don't know if they have volunteer supervisers to help with all the sports and things?
