  • Has anyone tried tracing an old friend?

Alright, it's a weird thread subject, I know. But I'm stuck!

I'm trying to find a friend I fell out with after 17 years. It's one of those weird compulsions I get, I NEED to find this friend and clear things up. We had a whopping misunderstanding and went from bezzie mates to never speaking ever again. At the time, I had no idea what to do but I've finally sorted it out.

I used to suffer with bad panic attacks, and had one for the first time in ages yesterday about this bloke. OH was very understanding - luckily, and helped me stop the anxiety before it got really bad. But I just need to try and finally put it to rest and, if at all possible, be friends again.

(Yes, was involved, never ever sleep with your best friend!)

I logged on to 192.com but they haven't emailed back. I've googled him and tried facebook, etc, but just wondered if anyone else had traced someone and how they did it.

I've traced quite a few school friends through friends reunited and a couple have been tracked down by my getting in touch with friends of friends who have passed the messages along. Also, if you do that it may be worth knowing that some people don't automatically renew their membership every year and so you can leave a message, they can read it but they can't reply! So, as long as you're happy to put your email address in with your message then they can get back to you. Good luck with finding your friend

I found my first cousin on Friends Reunited after 36 years. We'd never met and she didn't even know I existed (long story). We're now really good friends.

I hear what you're feeling, but sometimes it's best to let sleeping dogs lie. Do you think that it will really lay your feelings to rest if you get back in touch or is there a possibility of opening a whole new can of worms?

I have found Friends Reunited and Facebook both really good to trace people I'd lost touch with - Bebo has it's moments too

You're right though! I've calmed down now and feel the same way. 17 years is waaay too long to drag things up again. It's time to stop worrying about the past and get on with it.

Thank you for all the suggestions though, I may try friends reunited for some old school mates!

I've tried to trace friends on myspace/bebo/facebook I've not always found who I was looking for though.
They don't always use their real name on those sites so try nicknames too
