  • HELP - Can't open attachments

This problem started a couple of weeks ago - around about the time my daughter used my laptop and microsoft did some updates.

I can't open attachments in windows mail at all and when I try to save them I either get "command failed to execute" OR "free up disk space" - I have tons of space so don't need that.

I have unchecked the don't allow attachments in the windows mail tool box and also did a system restore to before the time of the updates and still no joy!!! Anyone else having this problem or know how to fix it. I could open attachments no problem up until a couple of weeks ago.

    Thanks all.

I had/have this problem off and on. Not being very computer literate, I resort to the switching off and switching it back on again. this tends to work. Failing that, do you know whether the attachments are quite big? I had to dump everything in my recycle bin to get some of the attachments to open ( I wasn't even aware that the recycle bin stored stuff which affected the memory, but it does). If all this fails, pour coffee down the back of the computer and walk away. Did you get my message about the Glow in the Dark pigment from that company

Actually that could be a good point. I had trouble keeping this forum from shutting down, so downloaded Fire fox. Its free and haven't had any problems since

Thanks guys I know I am having the very devil with this problem. Wastril yep I checked the space I had loads but dumped everything I didn't need still no joy. It is the strangest thing for it to work all this time and then all of a sudden I can't open attachments. At first I thought it was just PDF formats and it was somethig to do with Adobe so uninstalled and reinstalled that - nope - it's not just PDF it is any attachment be it PDF, word, image anything wont open. If I try to open from the message it just hangs and does nothing. If I try to save it it says either "command failed to execute" or not enough space but there is mountains of space so I can't get an answer to this.

Driving me crackers this happended a day or two before halloween and I have been trying to sort it out but nobody knows. There are a few people on techie forums I have been reading through but nothing has worked for me. Looks like I am going to have to reset the put but I really really don't want to do that if I can help it!!

            Thanks again.

Not very technical on the whole but is it anything to do with "cookies" being disabled. Seem to remember having a problem with this in the past. Where's Mr Media when you need him??

                I'd switch to thunderbird http://www.mozilla-europe.org/en/products/thunderbird/
