  • Sp*m!

Is anyone else under what appears to be a sustained attack from sp*mmers at the moment. I have had to go over to comment moderation on my Blogspot blog... I am loathe to go over to passwords but think that I may have to. Is anyone else suffering too? And if so, have you been able to sort it out?

The spammers are out if force at the moment. I alone banished 32 from my own forum. I use www.stopforumspam.com to check out their emial addresses. But I've been doing this for about 5 years now so I'm very quick at spotting a spammer either by their name or email addy.

I've had a fair bit of spam too but I think it might just be New Year excess....as in the spam I'm getting in the comments is people trying to get others to hop over to their blog and look at their non-craft service. I'm personally hoping it'll all die down next week as I rarely get this level of spam. Maybe it's just a sign of how desperate people are to gain customers?

Yes I have been getting a lot recently. They appear to be automatically generated and certainly do not relate to the blog posts. Like you I have had the comment moderation and just live with it. I don't think there is much more you can do

Yes, I'm glad we have moderation on our comments - we get our fair share of spam and most of it is just nuisance 'advertising' but we've also had people 'having a laugh' and the comments were extremely rude.

Unfortunately, the busier your blog gets the more it will get targeted by spammers.

I noticed on my gifts blog that posts which show up high in search engines get much more spam chucked at them.

I turned off comment moderation on Handmade Harbour while I was running the giveaways last week - and frankly I was sick of moderating comments as they were pinging into my email at a ridiculous rate. I think I might have to go to word verification, much as I loathe it.

Grrr. Never did like spam, even when the only kind came in a tin with a little key.

I hardly used to get any spam since it normally got stopped by the maths captcha on my blog. The past few months however I've been getting 1 or 2 spam comments a week getting through.
