  • Help needed with blog layout/setting please

    Hi

I've recently started a Blog on Blogspot and I've used a standard page template (as I've not the first clue how to have my own background), I've been looking at some of the challenge blogs and notice they have a url code so you can display their blinkie on your page, I liked the idea of this so I could easily see which challenge blogs I'm following but once I've copied the code I don't know where to paste it!! Sorry if I'm being thick, but it's all beyond me I'm afraid. I've gone into the layout page but can't see it there and then looked at the html page and that was just scary and may as well have been written in Chinese to me!

Can anyone advise please - in simple terms! Thanks

Ha ha don't be scared! You will need to paste it on the htmls page. the best thing to do is save a copy first it gives you that as an option, then even if you mess it all up you will have that to fall back on.

Where you paste it depends on where you want it but may be look for "side bar" and paste it in a free line under there then preview it and see if you like it, if not then there is a remove or cancel changes button and try it again some where else. If you like it then save it.

Sorry I'm not being very technical here but that's how I do things trial and error!

Maybe someone else can give you all the proper terms.............

Hope that helps but I doubt it!

It is easier to add it as a "gadget", that way you can be sure you're not messing up something important!

Just choose "add a gadget" on the layout page, then choose the html/javascript option which is on the basic list that comes up first when you open it.

Paste the code into here, put a title into the title box if you want one, then save. And you should have your blinkie!

Forgot to say, once you have saved it as above it will show on the layout page and you can drag it to where you want it.

It looks good! Im glad you got it sorted!

If you want a space between the blinkies try experimenting by putting <p> or <p><p> (depending how big a gap you want) between the code for each one.

You can also keep track of challenges (eg if they havnt got blinkies) by adding the blog list gadget, and selecting all the challenge blogs to display on it - if you choose to have them in order of most recent update you will be able to see when a new challenge has been posted wthout even leaving your blog!

Oh thanks, that's really good to know, epecially as one site didn't have a blinkie, will try the spacing too.

Lol, I think I like being no1 blog aide, it sounds very important!!!!!

My problem is I dont stick with basic things, I like to get in up to my neck and know why, how etc! Which is why I learnt html from online tutorials so I could make my ebay listings look nice when I was selling a lot on there a few years back. Most people would have stuck to the plain listing or bought a template from ebay!!!!!!
