I had a hair appointment yesterday that I arrived a bit early for so I took the opportunity of having some spare time to browse in the charity shop next door.
    .
Hidden away on a bottom shelf was this collection of children's Ladybird books. I had a quick look through and decided to buy them.
    .

    .
It wasn't until I got home I had a proper chance to sit down and look at them in any great detail.
    .
Now, my memory isn't that great (hence jellybrain) and I had completely forgotten about this book, (no reason I should remember it I suppose) but the instant I saw this cover, I was transported back to my childhood. I was mesmerised.
    .

    .
Even more so when I saw this page.
    .

    .

I don't remember any of the story or many of the other pictures in the book, but these pictures really stirred up some long-forgotten memories and I spent ages absorbed in them.
    .

    .

I don't know why those pictures in particular jumped out at me, but it was nice to see them again and to do a spot of time-travelling!
    .
I was going to give the books to Toby to have as he enjoys learning to read, but I think they might go on my bookshelf instead!

Oh my goodness - I remember those books. I got a funny little feeling in my stomach when I saw the first picture of them. I used to love them. I remember the one with the boat on.

How nice to find them. Lucky you!

        Happy reminiscing!

Ethel - I'm not sure about the bloglines? I don't know if anybody else has the same problem? Have you tried the clicking on the "subscribe to this blog" bit where you give your email addy and it should notify you of new posts? I've got your blog in my bloglines and get notified okay so I'm sutmped?

It's true what you say about getting a funny feeling in your tummy. Who knows what connections are made in your brain? Bonfires in the autum have the same effect on me because the gardener at my nursery (god, don't I sound posh?!) used to burn the leaves and the smell just takes me straight back! That, and creosote reminds me of my grandad's garden shed.

I know I've got another little book up in the attic where the picture on the cover really does make me feel funny inside and I don't even remember the book itself. Strange innit? (just to prove I'm not posh!)

I love ladybird books!!I still have The Elves and the Shoemaker and Cinderella because the pictures are so amazing.
I believe ladybird books are collectables now because of the illustrations.
