Hi, I'm not a member but the lady who runs the art studio, where I sell some of my stuff, is a member. I did think about joining but haven't looked into it too closely, as yet (not enough time!) I wasn't sure just how rural you had to be?? Do you know much about it?

I'm not a member .... yet. However, I am attending one of their business seminars next week which is about "Promoting your Business and Selling Yourself". Am really looking forward to it so will let you know how it goes. I'm sure they'll try and get me to sign up with them at the event though - you probably only get one freebie before you have to sign up !!

Hi I am a member of WIRE and have been for about twelve months now. Based on my own experiences, it has been very benefical. You can attend as many networking groups as you want. I am a member of my local group and a specific crafting groups, which meet about once a month. It has opened alot of doors for me, they are very approachable if you need advice, so I would recommend it.

          Hope this helps

I'm attending a seminar on thursday 24th and another on the 30th. The 24th is about costing your work and the other is 'opening doors session' its about the research stage of setting up a business. I'll post more information as I get it. They are both very local to where I live so they are pretty easy to get to. WiRE its self is based in shropshire.

                  WiRE

Hi there - I don't have anything to do with crafts but I did notice your question when I googled 'WiRE'. I do the PR for WiRE's 'Opening Doors' project - i.e. I try and get the word out there about the project!

You can find information on their website - go to wireuk.org and then click on the 'Opening Doors' section.

Basically, it's a free programme of training, support and information for any woman in Staffordshire, Shropshire, Warwickshire, Hereford & Worcester who wants to set up her own business. It's free to those who are thinking about starting a business or to those who have been trading for less than 12 months. And you even get a free lunch if you're there for a half-day workshop!

All the team are really friendly and supportive and it's a great way to meet other aspiring businesswomen in your area.

I've just set up my own business, doing freelance PR and copywriting, and I've joined myself. I'll be at the pricing workshop on Thursday at Amerton Farm so say hello if you see me!

Thanks for your time and sorry for gatecrashing your forum!

                  Mandy

Mandy i must have seen you there and not realised ! my name is jenny I was the one with the sock monkey!! Any ho I found the meeting to be very helpful for pricing my work I think In truth I knew the mechanics of it, but it definatly helped with some aspects I had never thought of. It was good for meeting other women in business and others wanting to start a business up. I will be definatly attending the meeting on the 30th at keele. Its made me really start thinking about my own business well worth it. I would recomend it, espcially if like me you have an issue with confidence, it really helped me.

                      WiRe

Hi Jenny - now I know who you are! I was the one who came in late - purple jumper, brown hair! I'm glad you found it useful - I always find the workshops to be really helpful. I've done the 'Be Enlightened' workshop that you're doing at Keele - they start off with confidence-building in the morning and then move on to business basics in the afternoon. What I really like about Opening Doors is the fact that everyone is really nice - all the other women really help each other. Anyway, hope you enjoy Keele and good luck with your business - I'm sure I'll see you around at some event or other! All the best, Mandy

I've just realised that I forgot to let you know how I got on at my first WiRE event.

Well, after feeling really nervous it was all very friendly and relaxed. There were lots of lovely ladies there, all of whom run all manner of different types of businesses, as well as quite a few ladies who are thinking of starting up businesses.

The lady who did the talk about PR was very informative and I've managed to put together a press release after hearing her speak - haven't managed to send it out to anyone yet, but it's a start !

They also asked me if I would like to showcase my products at next month's meeting, which of course I jumped at.

And do you know what - my Moo cards were the talk of the evening !!! They certainly stood out amongst all of the other business cards.

Roll on the 10th March !!!
