  • Credit card reader for small traders arrives in the UK

    I just thought I'd give you the "heads up" on this rather nifty device.....

    "A device that allows small traders to take card payments on their smartphones and tablets is set to arrive in the UK following its success in other countries.
    The device is available today and costs just £20, with the merchant paying a commission of 2.75 per cent per transaction."

    “Our ordinary mind always tries to persuade us that we are nothing but acorns and that our greatest happiness will be to become;
    bigger, fatter, shinier acorns, but that is of interest, only to pigs. Our faith gives us knowledge of something better, that we can become oak trees.”

      I have had this for some time but as said they still do not take visa. It works well on the ipad though. The other one is Mpowa but they are now charging a monthly fee, unsure if iZettle will follow hope not

          just read a bbc article on their big Europe launch - apparently, you CAN take Visa, but you have to take phone numbers and they have to enter security details on their own phone, wheras the other ones work more easily - possibly something to do with Visa having a stake in Square, perhaps?

          Shocker on Mpowa charging monthly, they've just handed away their big advantage - and I was just about to sign up too! Just goes to show - you want the low down, get to the forum x

            Registered with izettle several weeks ago and had to chase it up to get it going. Even then we were told at the beginning of last week that it had been dispatched but I've not received yet. Even if it doesn't take Visa it'll be better than not having the facility at all as we get asked at every event whether we take cards. I asked around a lot of my acquaintances and a lot have Mastercard and Visa but in any case as there is no charge unless you use it we can always change when we know more about Sage's and Paypals ideas.

              I closed my streamline account when they were snotty with me over a £50 fee. I can take cards with my phone via Worldpay without a dongle, but this is a nice bit of kit - and they have a visa symbol on their website so I assume they now are friends with visa

                          It's good if they are friends with visa because both my debit cards are visa debit cards - it's what the bank changed to a couple of years back.

                            Right - I have registered and bought an Izettle reader - I now await receipt, trial at the next craft fair and will report back - it certainly was a simpler process than Mpowa - I ran out of steam with that one
