  • New site, advice and how to get noticed...

    Heya everyone,
Have been having a little browse around and am quite overwhelmed with how much stuff there is going on on this site and how I have only just found it!
I have very recently set up a new craft online site but am struggling with how to get noticed and draw in customers... I have told friends about it and they have told a few other friends but when I don't have that mnay crafty minded friends it's a bit difficult! Does anybody have any advice that you could give me? Am really not sure where to start now I have the website! (my site has been submitted to some of the search engines through my website provider)
    Thank u!

Yeah I suppose I just need to be patient, lol just not so good at that. And I probably made a mistake by gatting Christmas stock in... worried I am going to be left with all of it after Christmas, oh well you live and learn I suppose.
Now I am going to sound totally hopeless... how do I add my website when? Thanks!

Put your website on your signature as suggested, also, (go into your 'CP' at top of page and look for signature. open that and stick the web address in along with any other comments or sites you want) whether you like them or not, start a blog, get onto facebook, Twitter etc. Open up online shops with Etsy, Misi, Folksy maybe others. Also look for free online registers and indexes. Get into them. If I type my name into Google I get over 20,000 hits so there's always hope that someone somewhere will spot me. Also get biusiness cards and shove everywhere that they can be sen (within reason mind)

              Hi

The link to your site is not working:

              it brings up

              http://www.craftsforum.co.uk/www.whi...tsonline.co.uk

I think if you go to edit your sig: highlight the code and click the chain with a red cross. Then put in just your website address.

Will have a look at your website later on

                Me too!

I am in the same boat exactly. I created a facebook group but have no idea how people access it?.... and I have no friends.

I was hoping that craft fairs and selling to shops might kick start my business and that the website would support that somehow?

Although I want to be successful, I don't want to be stuck in the spare room dawn til dusk making Giggles and for my only human contact to be with the lady at the post office!

Giggles...One thing I noticed is that there's no clear link to your web address on your fan page. If you post a link to your shop on the wall, it will show in the links, and if you look at mine, I've also put the web adddress in the little info bit on the left. Might gain you a few more sales

I'd get to craft fairs, and speak to every stall that has anything remotely close to what you sell, and give them a business card / flyer about who you are and what you do. They may visit, they may not. They may mention you to other people they know, they may not. It's easier to get yourself known by talking to people than trying to get to the top of Google rankings

You need to complete your meta tags for your site - there is no description, and there are no keywords. Without those, it's a lot harder to get found.

Start a blog, and link from there to your site. Regular, interesting content makes people link to your site. More people linking to you means a higher page rank. Higher page rank means you stand a better chance of being found.

                      Content -> Traffic -> Money
It's never too late to gyrate!

From what I know, getting regular reasonable levels of traffic to a website is a one to two year project. Posting on forums with your signature is a good start, business cards etc. If you know someone who already has a website who can offer a link to your website (and you to theirs) then that can work. I have heard that getting links into your site via forums and other websites increases your page rank with the search engines, especially if you can get links off reputable and trusted sites.
