  • Anybody sell on Home of the Handmade?

    Good Morning

I came across the site http://www.homeofthehandmade.com/index.php through a link on twitter.

Has anyone ever used them for selling before and can recommend them (or not recommend them )?

Not heard of them either, good idea though, like a crafty eBay! Although no one seems to list for bidding.

Not at all sure about this site! maybe thats just because it has such a different feel to the usuall etsy /folksy format. I think I would need to set aside some time to have a proper nosey around the site before making up my mind.
          Happy Crafting!

I also came across that site a few weeks ago through an advert in a recent craft magazine. I thought it didn't look quite as contemporary as the other craft sites. I believe you can list something on there for 6 months at a minimum rate-not sure what that says about the amount of sales they're making!??

I've never heard of it either and having a look around it looks like it might be quite new. I can't actually find a seller who has sold anything (I looked at quite a few!) and lots of the shops have nothing in them.

I hope it does well - it has a great website name.

I've heard of them - but only because they sent me an email inviting me to join.

I wasn't really keen on their site, it felt too much like ebay for me. I think they are pretty new.

I was at a craft fair on Sunday and a lady I know mentioned the shop Shalamars Bazaar in Colchester, Essex to me, I remember some time back that he joined this forum trying to drum up business for his shop (I believe he has three) and that he may have been told off for spamming (sending pm's to members without their asking trying to get them to join his shop).

Anyway during the course of the conversation the lady told me that Shalamars Bazaar now also has a website where he sells crafters work and I am pretty sure this was the name she gave me. She did say that there are two websites with very similar names but if you google it should come up as the second listing.

Don't know if this helps anyone. I know I did not take up his offer of space in his shop as he kept telling me (and others) different price scales for space etc.

have to say I haven't looked at the website. Off to have a nosey now

I have had a look at the website and this is indeed the one linked to Shalamars Bazaar in Colchester.

                    the plot thickens

Must admit I had another nosey and the website kept going all peculiar and it didn't look overly professional and is rather confusing imo.

I was looking to see what you had to do to bid on an item because the listings are 6 months long and I can't imagine anyone wanting to wait that long It said this "Why does it say auction? It's just language that everyone can understand. Internet talk. You can't bid on any item on HomeoftheHandmade.com as this can result in the crafter not receiving the required and deserved price."

Is it an auction or not then??

It is the same family, Salamar Bazaar and Home of the Handmade both run from Essex by the Connor family.

How odd. I'm all for language that everyone can understand, in which case auction surely means auction. Buy Now or Add to Cart would be more appropriate terms - which I also think are phrases which are understood quite easily by potential buyers in Internet land.

It would appear that this site needs to be a little bit more thought out.

I like the ending soon section, only 103 days to go

Hardly instils panic buying, does it?

There are some nice bits and bobs on there, hope someone gets a sale on there soon
