  • Stock in shops

I wonder if anyone out there could advise on this....

I've been stung before when placing items for sale in a shop, and ended up losing a fair amount of stock (but not enough to make it worthwhile taking any legal action).

For those who place items in shops, whether the agreement is commission or sale-or-return, what sort of agreements are you getting to safeguard your stock, and/or takings? Have you been ripped off?

I'm considering using a shop again, but want to get some form of contract so that I can't be fleeced. Any ideas?

    Thanks.

There have been threads on this before, if you can find them they might be quite useful.

End of the day, dont let yourself get into something where a) you dont have a contract, and b) you dont trust the person.

It depends how you go about it, whether the shop is expected to buy your stock outright, or whether its sale or return.

I would suggest taking a deposit (that at least covers your costs) so that even if they fleece you, you've only lost the profit as oppose to your costs as well.

You also may want to try asking the shops to buy the stock outright first, with the option of you buying the stock back later in the same condition, if they cant sell it - they way they will be more inclined to look after it too and cant fleece you. After you've built up a relationship with them and know you can trust them you could consider alternative arrangements.

Just be careful not to leave yourselve open, there are all kinds of people out there!

Thanks to all of you (have added rep points).
One of the delights of this forum is knowing there will be crafters out there who will give good advice.
