  • Website mystery....

Can anyone help with something that's been puzzeling me?

I've got a website - it needs some work to make it better and I need to work on promoting it and getting it 'out there' - whilst I'm trying to sort all this out I've just got the website live as it is and any sales I do make is always a bonus. I have made some sales - but they're all from the same page on the site.

Its not a particularly 'high up' page - it's in FIMO, Other and I seem to be selling a lot of my drawing pins. Any ideas why that might be? I think they're a good product but not anymore so than a lot of other stuff on my site, wouldn't have thought there was a big demand necessarily for drawing pins and as far as I'm aware, so I think it's something to do with the page rather than the product. I've not set this page up differently to any of the others so I'm just wondering why people seem to be picking up on this page?

I'm not complaing - just want to transfer the winning formula to the other pages

Hope that all makes sense and any ideas anyone has would be gratefully appreciated!!

It might be to do with the way google partially assigns page relevance
        by page address.
        So if the address was
        http://www.craftsensations.co.uk/fimomodels.htm
it has higher relevance than your actual page address
        http://www.craftsensations.co.uk/htm...fimomodels.htm

Text Links also help with the ranking so you could enable text as well as picture product links

P.S> The site shortened the long address so you have to click it to see what I mean, sorry

Aaaah you see - you can't even find it when you're actually LOOKING for it so how come people are buying it?!?!?!

          It's here: http://www.craftsensations.co.uk/htm.../fimoother.htm

About half way down the page... (I've also sold some of the straws on this page)

Actually they are rather nice - I can think of a use for them.
Do you do them in green?

Was just going to say the same thing. I doubt that search term is very popular so if you've got that product then anyone looking for it will find your site.
The hard bit is now getting your other keywords high in the rankings so you will get visitors searching for your other products.

Now I've actually seen the pins I can see why they are popular! They are very pretty and so are all of your other things.

Greannancrafts – yes and I could do them in green – no probs – have Pm’d you.
Nattynetty – thanks for this – good to know! Though would people be searching for funky drawing pins?!? Well actually I did get one enquiry where I know she had done just that as it was for an event but generally…
MuranoSilver – thanks for the info – just trying to get my head round it as I’m computer-useless!! So, are you saying then that a text link would be better than a picture link? So if say, I change it so that to look at my FIMO notebooks page, I change the word ‘notebooks’ to be a link, rather than the picture, it would boost my rankings?
With the address bit – why would google rank the first one higher than the other? Is it because the second URL is longer? How could I make it shorter?
                    Thank you onlyme!
Thanks guys – you’re all wonderful as always!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just had a look at your home page and what I think murano Silver is saying is that It wouldn't be a bad idea to have some text with links as well as your image links. It's complicated but when the search engines crawl (i.e. look at) your site they analyse factors like body text and links within that text. So its always a good idea to have a reasonable amount of text on your home page with some links within that text. The images and image links are fine but its always a good idea to have some text with links as well.
                      Hope this helps a bit.

                          Hi,

Are you using Google Analytics on your site? If you set it up it will show you the numbers of visitors to each page of your site, the most common landing pages (so you'll know if people are going straight to that particular page, not via your home page), where the visitors have come from (google, crafts forum, etc) and what keywords the used to search on a search engine, before clicking through to your site. It would realy help you understand which pages are getting the most hits and possibly why. It is also really useful if you have your site listed on lots of listings and directories because you can see how many visits you are getting through each one and how many people look at your site in depth from each one, rather than leave your site straight away.

In short, it's very easy to set up and costs nothing. Just do a search for "Analytics"
