I'm not really sure about registering with IR I'd like to know this myself (I am also only just getting ready to start selling)
I hate to put you off, but I don't think your going to be ready in time for xmas, and even if you are, you may not get many sales. Sorry to be a downer, I just didn't want you to get your hopes up too high!

You have to register with the IR within 3 months of starting trading, whether it's on Etsy, Folksy, your own website, a craft fair or anywhere else .

If you don't expect to make much money you can apply for a small earnings exception so you don't have to pay NI contributions.

There's a lot of information on the HMRC website and the Business Link website.

Oh and check out the Distance selling regulations too. They tell you things that you must tell customers and about the customer's right to cancel & return the goods.
