  • Problems facing arts and crafts retailers

Morning, we're putting together a new publication to address the business needs of the arts and crafts retailer and professional and I was hoping some of you might share anything you'd like to learn about, or any business issues you have at the moment that we could try and address in the publication. Please post, we want to be useful!!

    Thanks, Chris

Making customers realise that handmade = quality and therefore you can't expect it to be the same price as things you buy from Poundland!! I don't think you could fix that for us though!!

I think it could come down to the fact that we are bombarded every day of the year by well meant suggestions as to how we can sell our handmade goods, and educate the public into knowing the difference between us and Primark - and none of it actually does any good! The buying public are a fickle people, and, however well you can forecast marketing trends and how people will buy, it's still all down to the whim of the buyer. All we can do is make the best we can, for us, and hope that somewhere there will be someone who has the same taste - and hasn't already made it themselves. Damn. I'm getting cynical in my old age!

I think it would be useful to know table dressing tips, or How to Make Best Use of your Stand Space. I know I could improve, but don't really know what to do. I am guessing it can't be that different from what goes into making a successful window dressing, or counter display.
          Hope that helps
