  • Shipping carrier

Just wondered who you all use for shipping your wares.

I currently use Royal Mail but one parcel that I sent last week cost me £13 (though the customer was invoiced for this) and I thought I could get this cheaper by using a carrier but they seem to suggest that items start at about £20 ? I also have a large item to send (1m x 1m) that I think might be too big for Royal Mail.

Anyone have any experience of using anyone other than Royal Mail - and any positive/negative comments or things to consider?

This web page from eBay will probably be your best starting place.

Sorry I cannot personally recommend any particular company, but these do offer the best value around.

I use parcelmonkey - excellent service and quite cheap. They have a real easy quote screen and you can pay with paypal !

There were several mentioned on a thread last time Royal Mail was on strike. If you do a forum search for "postal strike" you should find the thread.

It depends very much what you're sending, how heavy it is, and the quantities you send wether you can find somewhere you can find a courier that works out cheaper than Royal Mail.

I have used http://www.parcel2go.com with some success - however I ave now opened an account with http://www.ups.com

For items under 2kgs Royal mail (via franking machine) is the least expensive.

I have used My Hermes loads of times. They are great if delivery isn't urgent as it takes about 3/4 days. It is all tracked door to door. A lot of catalogues and e-bay sellers use them. My Hermes will also collect from a safe place if you will be out. This is a huge bonus if you aren't at home during the day.

I also use interlink direct if it is urgent. You find with them that once you have sent one package they send you discount codes to use on future consignments.

Take a look at both websites they offer some really good rates.

Royal Mail and I make sure that I pay according to the items worth, because I've had a few items that have been broken and refunded to the amount.

                I have started using collect+, prices from 3.99 upto 2KG and 4.99 upto 5KG.

So easy, just print the barcode off and take it to your nearest paypoint. If you have an account with them you can get the delivery delivered to the customers nearest paypoint shop for the to collect anytime the shop is open..i.e. 7am - 11pm in most places.

It is also available on ebay as a recognised courier.
