  • Fraud warning - Singapore 'buyer'

    Hi,

Just thought I'd post a quick warning about an email I got this evening. It reads as follows:

    Dear Sir/Madam

I'm interested to order from your company. Before we go any further, please
let me ask you these questions:

    - Do you ship worldwide to Singapore?
    - Do you accept Mastercard or Visa?

For those I will responsible for the fees.
I think that wouldn't be a problem as I am sure that you can ship via DHL
or UPS and that you have a merchant account to accept Credit Card payment,
but once again, I just want to make sure. Please respond immediately so
    that I can start ordering.
I'm looking forward to hearing from you soon.

    Regards,
    Peter Lee
    Singapore
    =============

I was a bit suspicious of it (not least because it's the middle of the night in Singapore!) so I googled the email address and found it was included on a website reporting credit card fraud. Needless to say I won't be responding! Thought I'd post it on here in case it's doing the rounds.

I'd recommend anyone who gets a similar style email do exactly what you have done and google the name/address/text or whatever as nine times out of ten if it's a **** it'll show up.

Oh, yes - I get so many of these from faraway places, offering to buy or sell. It's just not worth the risk to even think about folowing them up...

        Many thanks for the warning.
I've never thought to google an email address! Silly really as I google odd looking phone numbers shown on my caller display - I've found loads of hard sell co's that way and know not to answer that number if it calls again!
