  • Shoe Making courses?

Does anyone know of any shoe making courses? I mean pretty, special type shoes, mules and boots not normal workday ones.
I know when I researched into it a few years ago there was one in London. BUT I'm up North and it's too expensive to stay there for the length of the course.
So if there was a course up here I would love to go.....blending my two passions...making things and shoes/boots..!!! Does anyone know??

Just a little reminiss for you. You must remember my mentioning (once or twice) Aged Aunt who lives with us part time. When I was a child she was forewoman in the Finishing Room of Equity Shoes in Leicester. Now she definately had a shoe fettish. You thought 400 was exagerating, not so and she only took a size 3 so me at 10 years old and with big feet well remember how I fitted into them all perfectly and spent many happy hours running round the streets of Braunstone in beautiful high heeled shoes of every shape and colour. She still has most of them in the attic. Couldn't throw them out.

Jacqui - De Montfort university (Leicester) do a degree course in shoemaking - they may do summer school or similar.

Carol - hang on to those, they're bound to be collectible.

Oh Elaine thanks so very much. I'll get onto that right now.
I don't have loads of shoes but the ones I do have I really do love them!!!!??
As children dad worked for himself and times were difficult in the seventies! He used to take us down to a cheap (very) shop and were bought shoes all for under a set price! A clue: my dad gave me a £5 to buy shoes and outfit in my early teens!!!!
So I buy unusual, QUALITY footwear. However they do last a long time..
                  Again thanks Elaine.

I went to De Montfort uni and the footwear course is world renowned, someone I was in halls with who did it went on to work for Paul Smith (top designer so I'm told) before setting up her own design house. Don't know if they do any summer schools or short courses but if they do I'd jump on them

                          Nattynetty,
an update on the De Monte shoe course. There's no mention of a summer course in the prospectus. I havent had time to ring them up to enquire tho.....I'll keep posting here when I do,

Actually yes. I keep shoemaking courses regulary - this year in Sweden and US, but apprenticeship courses are available in my workshop.

I would also suggest to watch my videos - maybe you can find in them what you need:

                            youtube - search: shoemaking
