  • Updated look

I have spent the last week updating my website.
It was getting a bit tired (and messy) having developed and evolved over the last 18 months so I decided time had come to bring it up to date.

I've gone for a bit of re-branding as well as just updating so would be very grateful if anyone would spare the time to tell me what they think - good or bad (she bravely says!)
    You can find it here

I still have to take the new branding through all my social media but will be getting on with that this week

    Many thanks,
    Catherine

I really like it....I've just done the same thing myself as someone commented that it seemed old fashioned.
Your colours are lovely and it's a really 'come in and make yourself comfy' type site that I'd be likely to browse round for a while xx

I really like it, it's simple (but not in a bad way) and very easy to navigate and to find the info you want. Photos are great too, if you took them yourself then I'm seriously jealous of your photographic ability.

Tried to find some constructive criticism I could impart but really couldn't see anything that needs a tweak

        Hi Catherine,

it's never ending job isn't it ? I try to remember how the old website looked like and this one is just a little bit too cold for me - but that's just my personal opinion, so don't worry too much about it.

It's fresh and clean and you will probably find that over the next few months you will add extras.

Some practical points: (perhaps): You have a search button twice on your website (header & then as a side columm) you probably really need just one.

Text size - About you - you have enlarged the size (great & good to read) but then other pages like contact us is the smaller size.

Welcome page - do you want people see the dotted lines around the two tables ? If yes, that's fine, but I probably would put the writting in centre of the second table or and size it as header - is the table slighly bigger ? (Saying that mine are as wonky as anything - I'm still working on resizing my photos & pages).

Do you think that Guestbook would be better as Feedback ? Guestbooks always make me think of B&B but that's maybe just me.

Otherwise, as others said well layed and simple to use. Hope 2013 is really good for you - looking like you already have your fairs planned, so good luck !

Thank you all for taking the time, your comments are really helpful.
I will be taking a closer look at the text as someone else I asked commented on that too!
I think I was concentrating too much on the images - yes I did take all the photos NN I had treated myself to the book Crafter's Guide to Taking Great Photos at Christmas.
It didn't actually tell me much new as I have been keen on photography for many years so should have been sticking to the rules on light and background etc. but did remind me to do the photography properly instead of expecting some sort of miracle short cut (don't tell the tutor from my last course that I hadn't been using my tripod ) - so worth the money for that alone!

            Hi Catherine,

just another thought - if you are looking for a smarter look on your website - try to switch your body text from black to grey (well researched fact & not just my opinion...). Just see how it looks and then make your own mind up, but I think you would be surprised how big difference it makes.

Thanks for your suggestion - the text is actually meant to be grey! Maybe I used too dark a shade, I find black too harsh but didn't want to go too light and make it difficult to read as I'm someone who now needs to grab the glasses to see a website.

Your comment about the site being a bit cold chimed with me, and I've had comments from other people I see quite often at fairs and markets who said it didn't seem to reflect the 'personality' of my stuff, so I've changed the home page to include some more lifestyle shots to add colour. I find it very hard to get the balance right between the clear product shot and making something look more inviting.

WOW - that picture just makes the difference ! The text colour is definitelly black on mine - check the current colour in your 'Design' it might have referted back to black (?).

I love your site.... I also like the way you have photographed your items. How did you get on using the 'Create' website tool?
