  • Opinions please!

    Hi all,

I have had this website up and running since before Christmas. I've done it myself (as you can tell!) on Microsoft frontpage.
People I know all say great etc but I would really appreciate some feedback from people that dont know me so aren't afraid to be honest! I realise it needs tweeking in terms of formatting and I need to sort a proper company logo out as at the moment I am just using a bit of clipart.
    Any other suggestions or feedback?

Thanks for looking. Website link is below- 'bellasbabycakes'

On the whole I thought that the website was very good, but found the moving news bit (if you know what I mean!) at the top of the home page really distracting. I think that I'd rather it didn't move. Just my opinion though!

Hi! Wow you have obviously put a lot of work into it!! I do have some constructive critisism though.
I agree with the previous post about the moving writing, it is off putting and (sorry to sound mean) a bit tacky, you know like a horrible advert. This is a shame because your products look really good!
Also, this might just be me, but I have to scroll across to view the whole page and I am quite lazy and don't like doing this for any length of time, it's a little annoying.haha
I don't know wether that is something you can change or not though.
Overall, be really proud! It's way better than something I could do!

        HI Bella.

wow that is good.. afraid I agree with the others the news and the screen width, and at the risk of sounding picky the style of the words for your links is too cursive I'm having trouble reading it, as nice as it is, I think that a plainer script would work better for those of us older peeps who struggle to read.

I'm assuming here that some grans would be looking for gifts for grandchildren.

But on the whole very nice

          Hi,

I've had a look at your website and I like it but the first thing that struck me about the home page is that there's an awful lot of info on it and the scrolling bit along the top is going way too fast for me - it's almost 'strobing' to my eyes.

I agree about needing your own logo and some formatting issues and another thing that stuck out on your home page is the underlined sentence "Instead of sending the usual bunch of flowers...". It's kinda hidden down the bottom and if it's important enough to be underlined maybe it should be in a more prominent position? Hmm maybe I'm being too picky but if you want to keep all the info on there I'd put something short and snappy under your business name so that people know exactly what you're all about without having to read everything. Then when they want to know more they'll click on the pics or have a look at your T&Cs and About Us page. Just a suggestion...

Otherwise it's a nice site and the product descriptions are great.

          Lorna x

P.S. Just notice on your Contact Us page that you haven't put your address, I've read a lot of threads on this forum that recommend you put a correspondence address to reassure your customers.

P.P.S It may look like I've ignored the above posts but there were no comments when I started writing this honest!

A very pretty site with great pics and super looking products!
2 minor 'style' points from me if that's ok.... the writing Nappy cakes delivered within the UK seems a little out of place and may look better in a text box elsewhere - it messes with the overall look of your header.
The ticker tape across is distracting (made my eyes googly), perhaps if you want to keep it like that slow the rate down a bit.
In all though really super and you should be proud of your effort.

Gosh you've all been so kind and your feedback is invaluable!
              thankyou thankyou thankyou!

Ok this is what i will work on:

              1. get rid of the nasty scrolling words - you're right its tacky in a sort of kebab house sort of way ifywim - I'll add that info somewhere else.

              2. I'll add my address to the sight. Thanks Lorna

              3. I'll put 'nappy cakes delivered in the UK' elsewhere. thanks Aviya Glass

              4. "Instead of sending the usual bunch of flowers...". will be resighted closer to the top- Lorna you are spot on there!

              5. lilac Moon Designs- i so love the font I have used but you are right about it being a bit too fancy. My husband did comment on that but i dug my heels in! I'll have a look at that.

              6. About the width of the page- I agree its gone too wide and you have to scroll but on some computers its fine and others its not?? Not sure if its something to do with 'frontpage'? Anyway, I'll have a little play with that too!

Anybody any ideas about how to sort a logo out? I havent a clue or any ideas really and I'm supposed to be creative!

Thanks again all of you and if you think of anything else then please keep posting them!

Thankyou Autumn Rose. I have taken all the pics myself with just a white table cloth and good conservatory light lol! A little bit of photoshopping helped too .

I have been busy updating what I could tonight thanks to the suggestions above. I've:
                    1. removed the tacky scrolling writing and placed info about my forthcoming shows in the contact us page
                    2. Added more to my contact us page with details of where to send cheques etc.
                    3. Moved the UK wide delivery text down away from the title
                    4. Reduced the amount of text on homepage
                    5. added in about 'send a nappy cake or bouquet instead of flowers...' under the main title.
I've not changed width of page as its going to take me ages and it seems ok on a lot of computers. i'll tackle that at a later stage.

How do you think it looks now? Anymore advice will be gratefully received.

Didn't see your site before you made all the changes, but it's looking good now!

I notice you're exhibiting at the Warrington Craft Fair on 31st May - I will see you there! Look forward to seeing you (and your babycakes!)
