  • website nightmare

    My daughter and i made our website in photoshop and then used dreamweaver to do the website bits, and while we are good at photoshop, dreamweaver is a nightmare.

    We are using books and daughter has just started a course on it.

    one problem we are having is for external links, the whole of the text under the link is black and as soon as your mouse hovers over it, it opens the link, but not to the right place!

    can anyone put us right pls???

      Hello,
      Can you give us a bit more info?
      On which page is this happening?
      Can you paste the html code where the problem is occuring?
      I'm having quite a few problems with navigating your site...

        this is the page where the links are

          Hi, everytime I try to open that page it appears for a few seconds and then disappears and I get a page load error!

          Just guessing but is it something to do with this dreamweaver function you have running?
          Code:
          <script type="text/javascript">
          <!--
          function MM_goToURL() { //v3.0
            var i, args=MM_goToURL.arguments; document.MM_returnValue = false;
            for (i=0; i<(args.length-1); i+=2) eval(args[i]+".location='"+args[i+1]+"'");
          }
          //-->
          </script>
          You have a mouseover event that is going to another page when the mouse goes over certain paragraphs is that right!??
          Code:
          <p class="style8" onMouseOver="MM_goToURL('parent','www.rheaweddingdesigns.webs.com');MM_goToURL('parent','http://www.rheaweddingdesigns.webs.com/');return document.MM_returnValue">RHEA WEDDING DESIGNS
          I'm a bit confused by your code, am I right in thinking you are tyring to link from images using the dreamweaver function?
          In which case you don't need to do that. You just need to put a link around the image in the same way as text.
          e.g.
          this
          Code:
          <img src="images/links_19.gif" alt="" width="212" height="35" onClick="MM_goToURL('parent','Tiaras.html');return document.MM_returnValue">
          could be this
          Code:
          <a href="Tiaras.html" target="_parent"><img src="images/links_19.gif" alt="" width="212" height="35" ></a>
          Sorry if this is obvious or is there something I'm missing?

          If I were you I would delete your images etc on the server and re-upload everything.
          Bit of a hassle I know...

            Just been looking at your website and all is fine except I can't get into the 'Comb's' or Consultation pages......all the others ones let me in and I can see all your pictures etc.

                Hi, it looks like its all working now!
                The front page image looks a lot better!

                Just a personal opinion but I'm not sure I like being sent to another website just by putting my mouse over a paragraph without warning.. its a bit disconcerting!!

                Other than that the site is all looking very nice!

                        Ok...

                        Instructions for Dreamweaver
                        click on 'Code' (top left underneath links.html tab)
                        press Ctl+F or rightclick 'Find and Replace'
                        Find:
                        Code:
                        onMouseover
                        Replace:
                        Code:
                        onClick
                        Click the 'Replace' Button

                        Its not how I'd reccommend writing the html but it should fix your problem link... (I hope!!)

                        Let me know if you have any problems!

                              aww thank you - its all my daughters design really, the colours etc, Im happy with the look of it.

                              Next step (after fixing the links etc) is to learn how to make those jazzy flash pop up pages.
