I am new to the forum and came across this thread. I would definitely endorse checking out fair organisers and their codes of practice. I have just been stung with an organiser retaining a substantial part of payments made in advance as I have had to cancel. The excuse for the retention is "adminstration costs" . . . er . . . how tricky (and time consuming!) is an online transfer which is how I paid originally? I have emailed all my craft fair contacts warning them to avoid these people (it also took a lot of emails and threats to actually get the refund). One of my contacts has also warned me about another local organiser who won't refund in the event of cancellation unless you give them 6 months' notice! What??????? As far as possible, I am endeavouring to "pay on the day" so I don't get diddled.
