  • Advice wanted on Craft Fairs

    Hi,

I am new to this and I will be attending my first Craft Fair in November and was wondering if anyone has any advice for me? also do I need a public liability Insurance? I have only got 3 Craft fairs lined up so far.

    Cheers, Maya

Yes you do need PL insurance and product insurance in some cases.

Why wait until Nov - there are loads of events out there to be practicing with.

We are still practicing after 2 1/2 years.

Thank you for your reply. I live in Birmingham and there are not many local events in the Midlands region.

I couldn't agree more - I'm in Tipton and am struggling to find decent fairs!

I learn from every craft fair and this is my third year of doing them! I agree I always have Public Liability Insurance, you just never know!

Good Luck in November but definately do a few before then if you can.

How much is public Liability Insurance and where's the place to get it from? I always assumed the organisers of a show did this for the venue as a whole?

There are loads of threads of PLI - just search public liability on the forum

You should find something to suit.

Just an aside for all the people in the Birmingham-ish area - I am organising a few fairs for the rest of this year in Birmingham. The thread is here: http://www.craftsforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=29732

I'm finalising some details and will be announcing everything later this week :~)

Most places assume that you will have your own PLI. The venues or organisers will rarely cover you. Try the craftsman insurance from Ian Wallace through AVIA. http://www.craftinsurance.co.uk/about-us.htm I have used him for years and it's a popular one for crafters. For more info about selling your jewellery throught craftfairs etc. Get the free guide in my signature link.

Organisers will have their own PL insurance, but it won't cover someone sueing you for your own negligence - like creating a trip hazard, etc.

If cost is an issue, you can pay monthly with Ian Wallace to make it more affordable.
