I wouldn't use hot glue where strength matters, it's more for general-purpose use.

[Slightly off-topic ... I read a fascinating book about Superglue the other day. Couldn't put it down! 😂]

Hi, hot glue from glue guns is appropriate for craft applications and hobby work like glueing laminate etc.
The glue has no solvents so will not soak into materials, just sit on top.
Always easier to ask what glue is suitable for whatever your project is.

Totally Agree, its a surface bond only. I use it a lot for when I am making small jigs for cutting which I can then remove later. Anything more permanent would be a wood glue. For acrylic, I use Tensol 70, which Is a Chemical Reaction. Each use, different Glue.
