  • thinking of setting up my blog :)

    Hi all
I have been thinking about setting up my own blog. I am a paper crafter (mainly cards) and craft on a very regulary basis. But (of course!) I have a few questions that I hope you lovely lot can answer! First of all which blogging platform should I use: which is easiest and so on! And how much will I have to post: is once a week okay as I think this is all I think I can devote to it! And finally it's free right?! Ha I jolly well hope so

As a starter blog i believe Blogger is a good choice as you can hook your own domain to it and its free. How often you update is up to you but naturally the more often you update the more often your readers will visit, allot of blogs are doing fine with a weekly update.

Setting up your own blog is an excellent idea.

Yes, blogger is a good choice for a blog - go to http://blogger.com and you can have your blog set up in a couple of minutes. There are others you could use, but this is the easiest.

Yes, once a week is enough - I would say that more often is better, but once a week is definitely ok. If you find you have a lot to write, you can separate it into different posts and write one in draft format, then you could even schedule it to automatically post later on.

      Yes, it's most definitely free!

      Enjoy!!

I can't remember - but I seem to think you do. I know I set one up but I never use it, you can set up to have alerts sent to any email. Even if you do need a gmail account, it's quick to set one up.

Yes you do have to Google mail. (Helps as you can access most things via one login) But you don't have to use gmail. So if you plan not to, don't let anyone have that email.

I use Blogger for my blogging. And if you don't want adverts showing on your blog. Then Blogger is best to use, as I used Wordpress before this, and ads started to show, which I did not like as it did not fit what I spoke about, and some looked spammy. To get rid of ads on Wordpress, you would have to have paid version.

Blogger is my choice but there are several others out there, Typepad being one.

You can actually open several blogs on Blogger should you feel so inclined and you can allow other people to add things to yours as well. This is done by invitation.

              I have my crafting blog

              http://craftfairydesigns.blogspot.co.uk

              My cooking blog:

              http://nonnasrecipes.blogspot.co.uk

The blog that I contribute to:

              http://inspirationaltechniquesandtut...blogspot.co.uk

and a family blog that is open to my family only.

To some I contribute every couple of days. to others only once every couple of months. There is no rule as far as I can see.

              Happy blogging, whichever you choose.

blogger it's a good idea, but there you have a limited templates choice and many other restrictions... i would recommend to use and godaddy services - hosting, personal domain name and wordpress with custom template... anyway it's depends of the point of your blog

                          Hi

I use blogger (my blog is called peace of gem) - once you have got your head around it and have set up the design of you blog it is really easy to use. Yes, blogger is free. I think posting a few times a month minimum is best, but that can be hard depending on how much you write in each post and how much other stuff you have going on....Ultimately though, blogs are really great fun so I would go for it!

                          Hope that helps

                              Good luck with the blog!

I can't believe nobody mentioned WordPress though - it's by far the number one blogging platform!
                              Not craft related.
