Just read the article no making a candle. Makes me want to give it a go. Got loads of ideas I'd like to try. But Clare would kill me if I start yet another craft!! Great article though, really enjoyed reading it.

Thanks everybody for your comments - word of warning my kitchen isn't usually as clean as the pictures show - generally candle wax and crap everywhere - if you are thinking of taking it up it is mighty messy and you need a lot of space - but if you feel like it - go for it.
Hi, a good article - lots of invaluable tips that only someone with loads of experience would know - very kind of you to share. Like Kipper I've already too many crafts on the go (I wish - just not enough time in the day!) so won't actually be trying this one... or perhaps... hmmm!
I got a candle making kit when I was younger, it was great, came with three molds, a bag of flaky wax and some colour sticks. I had great fun and my parents still have some of the candles I made. My favourite was the chimney, where I made a red square candle and topped it with some frothy wax for smoke when it was almost set. The only problem was that I was too impatient and my 'smoke' went pink instead of white.
I had three molds and I would never wait for them to set properly and ended up with funny shaped warped candles.
It's similar now if I glue anything, I can't wait long enough and end up pulling things apart before the glue is dry......
