View Full Version : How long do I fire to reach cone 06 bisque?

I know that it would be best to buy some cones, but in this case its quite a drive to the nearest pottery store, and I dont have a lot of time off.

My kiln (which has yet to be tested) Says it will fire to 2300 degrees (cone 09 to 10 I think.) With a high, medium, and low setting. How do you guys (and gals) think would be the best way for me to achieve a cone 06 fire without having a cone? I'm willing to run some tests to see if objects will get to bisque (or if the kiln explodes) so we'll see.

Its been 4 years since I've been in to pottery, and just found a place that supplies bulk clay (and maybe) a wheel. If the kiln works at all, I could be in business.

One last thing. I never loaded the kiln when I was in ceramics, and I know this is a n00b question, but I load the kiln before firing, correct?
