    Closing Up Shop

Im sad to say that I have decided not to continue with my jewellery design. Its become more of a job and less of a hobby. I just dont enjoy it anymore :-( Has this happened to anyone else? Iv been doing it now for about 5 years.

Anyway, I now have the dilema of what to do with the gizillions of beads that I have in my studio. I have so much in there I just dont know where to start!

I have started listing things on ebay. Mod edit.

Do you think this is the best way to get rid of my beads? I thought that if I sold them at a reduced price it might help them move faster. Any other suggestions??

That's a shame your stopping your craft, but as forselling your beads if you want a quick rid of them then ebay is ok but you may not get the best prices, otherwise if you have an etsy shop you can list supplies on there & peopl are generally willing to pay more as quality products!

If you want to know they've gone to a good home you could ebay them and link here IN YOUR SIG so Critchley doesn't have to mod it out again , then we could all have a good look.

P'raps a CF discount if they don't shift quick enough!

I know I am not supposed to be buying any more, but I would probably justify myself by helping out another CFer.

But before you do, are you absolutely certain??? It seems really sad that your hobby has become a millstone

I think many people go through this but why don't you just chill for a while and enjoy life then who knows you may feel inspired again. It would be terrible if you sold all your beads then decided to continue at a later date. After a break go back into it in a small way rather than it feeling a chore.

        Only a suggestion.

          Hi,

Sorry that you're not happy with your craft anymore. Don't deny your creativity tho, it will nag you until you start doing things again, whether its beading or anything else!
Why dont you just "sit on it" for a while, as selling it all off is so final. Beads and jewellery never go out of vogue, so perhaps go back to it after a break.
I think if you do decide to sell, go for one or two "job lots" rather than indiviually, as the time and effort involved will far outweigh the financial gain, in other words, complete pain in the butt listing, monitoring, packing and posting, answering questions from prospective buyers and trips to the post office, all equates to loads of effort!

          Good luck. x

Thanks for all your suggestions but you know, I really dont think that I will go back to it. Hubby is working in London during the week and only home on weekends so I would like to spend my weekends as a family rather than ditching them for a craft fair. Also, im working every day now, and then theres all the kids clubs during the week. There just isnt enough hours in the day to allow me to be creative!

I have amended my signature (thanks StefC!). Keep an eye on it. Theres lots more to come! :-)

And thanks to Mike who suggested that I donate my beads to a hospice beading group in Glasgow. I am going to get a big bag together and hand them in. xx

Unfortunatly, I have been advised by the mods that I can not put my ebay name in my signature but if anyone is interested in taking my beads off my hands, please PM me.

              thanks.

Could you put a link on the home page of your website perhaps?

Jill if you do this please don't announce it on here otherwise it'll make this thread a selling thread and we'd have to pull it completely which would be a shame.

Also just wanted to say that I'm sorry to hear you're packing it in but when you explained about your family situation I completely understand - with your hubby away so much weekends become so much more precious.

It's all totally your decision, love the idea of donating to a hospice though.
How about just keeping a few of your favourite beads, been said before but maybe its a big crafters block, maybe in a while you may decide to just have a dabble just for yourself, or make for friends/family.
Ebay is all about the bargains, Folksy or Etsy would maybe be a bit more profitable.
Whatever you decide i wish you all the best and just be happy x

Absolutely! Make sure you keep a set of basic tools, findings and favourite beads so you can make the odd item for yourself when you need something to complete an outfit for example.

I am really sorry to hear your news Lots of people have the same problem that there jsut arent enough hours in the working day to do everything.

I hope you pick it up again at some point in the future.
