Photos onto Canvas - has anyone tried this

I have some beautiful sunset photos taken whilst on holiday and I would love to put these onto canvas and display them.

Has anyone done this or recommend where I can get them done?

    Thanks

All the usuals do them...vistaprint, photobox etc and other, more local printers do them too. My welsh chum has just had a couple of hers done ready for an exhibition - when they'd been done (A0) she saw that one of them wasn't right! Moral of the story - get them printed up on ordinary photo paper as big as you can to check them, or zoom in on screen (though it's harder to see blemishes and faults that way).

        Cheers

This is also something I've been researching! Wow- lightphase - those are great prices - could you pm me his info?

I've found that all the big photo sites are sooo expensive that no one would ever buy your canvas at a fair but if it's just for personal pleasure then I guess it comes down to how much you're willing to pay.

I've also experimented with the make your own idea - you can buy cheap blank canvas (we have au natural in Northern Ireland for this - not sure bout rest of UK?) and then there's this glue based system where you print off a mirrored copy of your photo on normal printer paper and lay it on your canvas and smother it in this glue thing, leave to dry and peel off - NOT that easy - I tried and it was a complete disaster - have the photo come off with it! Might work for you though.

I've also made canvases using t-shirt transfer paper. I dismantle the canvas so I can lay the paper flat, then iron on the transfer of your photo (again make sure you flip it before printing) and then peel off (and it does peel off if you're thorough) then I restaple the canvas back on and voila - it actually works quite well - doesn't look as professional probably as it could but I was pleased with the results and it only cost me a couple of quid!

Ive just bought some A4 canvas paper from the pound shop (2 per pack). You just print straight onto it like normal printer paper - not tried it yet but will keep you posted.

I only just discovered canvas paper. You can also buy cotton (or rag) paper which looks and feels like canvas, about £1 per A4. also cheaper paper canvas-style matt finishes , search on google or ebay for cotton paper. I just got a sample pack from MJC-media on ebay.

I produce a range of Giclee Art canvases and prints from my own photography and artwork(at extremely reasonable prices!!!)
I also produce prints for other people ( eg gimme your photo and I'll produce a canvas etc)

As an example price I do a csnvas print, sized around 700x450mm stretched onto a pine frame for around £50 + delivery

Send me an email for more details

                          Hi everyone,

I bought a kit from a company called You-frame. You get a A4 sheet of canvas and print it on your home printer (believe me it works) and then frame it using a plastic box canvas frame, no stretching etc required. I was sceptical at first but the print quality is amazing and when finished looks genuine, my friends keep commenting on them when they come over. the print comes out a little smaller than A4 but I bought a triple pack for £19.99 and made a tritych type display.

You can also get a single frame for £9.99. hope this helps

Thank you all for your help and suggestions.

Ashbash, Ive just thought, would you say that the canvas sheets you have ordered and tried on your computer would be the same type as artists canvas?

Do you think it would be possible to use this or is your canvas a special type? I think I may have some artists canvas amongst my craft things but never considered using this. Im always a bit dubious of putting different types of paper into the printer as I dont want to end up jamming it. Our computer is not easy to retrieve jammed paper at the best of times!

                            Many thanks

It is a special type i think, the box says it is double sided and that it is specially designed for home printers, it is definately real canvas, clever stuff, I printed 3 and found that the first one I forgot to set my printer to borderless so I tried again on otherside and no problems, the other 2 printed without a hitch. I have a dell photo 926 which is from the stone age and can be stubborn at the best of times.
