I've just finished knitting a little shrug type cardi for summer but it is a bit shapeless at the mo, and the borders on the sides turn back on themselves iyswim

I know I need to block it...but I learnt all I know from my mum and she never blocked a thing so I am a total novice...

if you block - could you share some wisdom with me please?

thanks very much

Hi AnnieB

There are different methods of blocking for different yarns and projects. The best advice I can give is check out these sites from a google search (http://www.google.com/search?q=blocking+knitting&rls=com.microsoft:en-gb:IE-SearchBox&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&sourceid=ie7) and decide which is best for your shrug.

You'll have to let us see pictures when it's done :)

It depends on the yarn you have used too. For a pure wool if you lay out the garment on a flat surface you can use a reasonably high temp with your iron, a steam iron gives very good results afterwhich it can be left to rest. Acrylic can also be steamed but on very low temp. Try a tension piece first though.
