I have read other peoples posts re 'treasuries'. They seem to be on folksy/etsy/misi. What is a treasury, why do you want one and how do you get one?

Treasuries are on etsy. I'm new to etsy so don't know a great deal about it but I can tell you what I have found out...

'The' treasury on etsy is a place where shop owners/sellers on etsy can create a 'list' of other peoples items which they have hand picked, and display them all in one place. (up to 12 items with 4 alternates in case any of the 12 items are de-listed).

You can include one of your own items if you want. The main purpose of a treasury list is to promote other sellers by putting together a gallery of 12 of your favourite items, or a selection of items that are all related in some way eg. by colour, shape, pattern etc. Sometimes if your treasury is really good it gets featured on the front page of etsy, so your name is recognised, and the peoples' work you have featured will get more views and quite often the people in treasuries generate sales through this.

You are probably thinking it sounds odd to want to promote other sellers when you should be trying to concentrate on promoting yourself, but I've discovered that people are so grateful to be featured, they are likely to feature you in a treasury too. Its also a good way to mingle with the community of people all over the world on etsy (it is a worldwide selling site). Also, the people featured in treasuries are usually so grateful that they post it on their blogs, sites, link to it on twitter etc, so the treasury curator's name and shop is being promoted further.

Its quite difficult to get a slot to create a treasury though, there has to be less than 333 treasury lists live on the site for someone else to make a new one. And each treasury list is only live for 2 days. It all sounds complicated initially but once you have a good look around the site and know what you are doing its fun.

Theres a 'proper' explanation of treasuries here: http://www.etsy.com/storque/how-to/h...and-bolts-688/

My first ever treasury is here: http://www.etsy.com/treasury_list.php?room_id=115040 What do you think?

I was also featured in this treasury yesterday: (organic ceramic planter) http://charlottehupfieldceramics.blo...-treasury.html

    Hope this helps you!

Actually it was a beautifully clear explanation with relevant links. Just tried to rep you for it, but I must spread the luurve, apparently.

Your treasury is beautiful, too. A pleasure to look at.

I've never been on etsy much, and didn't have a clue what a treasury was , so thank you.

And thanks, soap queen, for asking!

I am new at this and would like to get started making jewelry with swarovski crystals. Can anyone tell me if the following is a good deal?
4mm swarovski crystal 400 pcs bicone beads #5301 for $5 (this is s&h too). Also does anyone know the best price and where to buy swarovski banding (2,3,or 4 row)?
    Thank you
