I worked for 3 years in Japan in TEFL where I met my wife. Back in the UK I spent 3 years in the police but recently made a decision with my wife that the stress and shifts weren't worth it and that we want to be in a position to emmigrate so I am currently doing my PGCE in Secondary School English Teaching with a view to moving back to Japan in a couple of years.
My better half teaches Japanese privately and the rest of our time is spent on 'Satoko's Origami Jewellery'. The dream is to move the business back to Japan (Tokyo) and also run a private tuition business with my wife teaching Japanese to ex-pats and me teaching English.
We'll see......`Unique paper and silver jewellery inspired by the Japanese art of Origami`

I started out as a receptionist in a wholesalers, then went into bar work which I could fit in around my hubby's working hours once we had kids. Got a job in sheltered housing as the warden which meant I could work from home and have the kids around too (although we had to move to the warden's house), a neighbour took the kids if there was an emergency, but usually I got told off if the kids weren't with me when I did my rounds - they had 6 extra sets of grandparents!
I did SVQ's in childcare, using the local under fives group as my 'workplace' and got a job in a playgroup and also worked as a home help. I also sold Red House books as a party organiser - 3 jobs on the go at once as well as being mum and a distance learning student! I got my current job as a special needs teaching assistant 9 years ago and have given up the other jobs, this one can be stressful enough. I craft in the evenings and most of it is gifts, very rarely I make something to sell - and it is usually a commission. You don't stop playing because you get old, you get old because you stop playing!

I have done many things for work in the past. 14 years ago I gave it all up and I joined the wife in her full time business of making pottery. We gave that 5 years ....her making..me trolling up and down the motorway to week end shows.... After 5 years the reality hit home that 2 of us were not going to produce 2 peoples incomes out of our little business ( but boy we tried ). Turnover was there ... profit not so !!!
9 years ago I started a part time job working 3 mornings a week delivering bulk fruit & vegetables to hotels and shops all over Devon...it's a lovelly job and i've kept it going ever since . Sometimes, when we are busy with the pots, iI curse the job but it's so nice to have that part time income coming in when we are quiet. I'm always home by 1 in the afternoon and spend the rest of my time making/glazing/firing our pottery. Oh and we seem to make more profit now than ever before

A boring existence but now very useful time was spent in high end sales and marketing for major Uk companies, got made redundant in Feb. Went to college in the mid 90's learning silver smithing and jewellery design and manufacture, have done that as a very busy passion for 13 yrs and decided to do it full time in February 2009, been a great year and can't wait for next year to kick off. I've recently got into lampworking and borosilicate glass sculpture.

My first job when leaving school as as an artist assistant. I assisted the artist with setting up her silk frames, steaming silk etc and by the time I finished, I was also painting silks.
From there on I worked as a Teachers Aide, Drug and Alchol Detox Support Officer, Bar Work (funny after the Detox job lol), Dorm Supervisor (funny after bar work hehe) and then from there on I got a job as a Prison Officer after donig my required training.
I worked as Prison Officer in a Male High Security Prison for seven years and finished two years ago. I left due to the politics and poor management which was a safety issue for us Prison Officers. I did actually enjoy the job if it hadn't been for the management and the old boys' club.
Btw, I'm not a short cropped, big Bertha type of woman lol. I made several friends through the internet and it was funny when they met me as I wasn't what they expected. They expected a big, butch looking woman I guess

Since then I haven't done much, just sold a bit of artwork on the side. Luckily my husband works
Cheers Simone
