I want to do some mosaic pictures with my 5 year old. She saw some in a shop & wants to try it. Does anyone know where I can get some 'safe' tiles from? I dont really want to break up old tiles as the edges will be sharp. She wants to do a butterfly and a flower to start with, but I figure if she gets into it they could make nice xmas presents.

I'll post her 'creations' here when they're done (assuming I can find some teeny tiles to work with).

Hiya, if you go on Ebay and put in sea glass tiles or vitreous tiles, you'll find they haven't got sharp edges. Hope your daughter has fun

What about cutting out paper squares from foil, magazines etc. and using that as the tiles?

I am sure I have seen plastic mosaic tiles on ebay but if you want "seaglass tiles" then laflin on ebay is the person to go to. He has a lovely range of glass tiles and pieces which he has tumbled so that there are no sharp edges.

Or try mosaictraderuk who are in Canterbury they are a mosaic supplier and they have some glass tiles with rounded edges which are also suitable for children.

    Default Kiddie friendly mosaics

How about rolling out some fimo flat then making some mosaic shapes from it. That way you can choose the exact colours, shapes etc. Cos you can bake it they become hard like proper tiles but without the sharp edges........

You could use foam squares, they can be easily bought from hobbycraft and varnished afterwards
