Any Pyrography tips for a newbie?
Just for my first Pyrography iron and am about to attack a pile of beech - before I go and make a hash of it (and very likely burn myself / char the table / scorch the curtains) has anyone got any tips or pointers?

Or wait until 2010 for a book on pyrography by a friendly moderator to be published...

Scorch, your website is great by the way. I remember looking at it nearly 3 years ago when I was looking into buying my first pyro machine of my very own!

What I can't find is a guide to which nibs are good for which style of line / shading. I've had a few goes, getting the hang of nice even lines without (too many) blotches!

I'm really glad it's helped you - that was what I was hoping for. Roy Childs kinda talked me into creating a site when I bought the machine & was corresponding witrh him about stepdown boxes, and I'm glad I did it...
It's actually sadly out of date, as I have some technical issues with updating it, and have had for some time. (Don't ask... as a techy, I should know better than to let anyone else get their hands on it... but I did!
Sigh... ) I'm hoping to be able to get a complete revamp sometime soon, though...
