It's a great idea, I'd happily receive one! In fact, I'm planning on making some personalised journals for birthday pressie's this year.

Its a great idea, I did one for my Dads 65th birthday. Give yourself plenty of time to do it though as they take a while. Also leaving a few pages at the end is a good idea so they can add to it or so can you in the future!

Lovely idea, how about keeping some of your embellishments aside, or getting some extra ones for when your friend adds to it too, so that it all matchesFacebook page, Cottage Charms & Cards: http://www.facebook.com/update_secur...20677888001883

I made my first one for my nephews first birthday and my sister in law cried with emotion , he is now 3 and has a baby sister and I made her one for her first birthday and again it bought tears to my sister in laws eyes
I made one for my sisters 40th birthday and this year I'm making one for my Dads 75th and my Mums 70th , I'm planning on putting photos of my nans and grandads and also my great nan and great grandads ,my Mum has been researching the family tree and I have loads of very old photos plus some up to date ones
what I do is cut out squares of paper about 3 inches by 3 inches and let everyone write a special message to the receipient , they then get stuck in the book with a photo of the person who wrote the message , this goes down very well !! and is a lovely keepsake

I did a scrap book for my brother in law and his new wife when they got married, i didn't do any thing to the outside it was ivory so i left it plain an di didn't want to do too much inside as i wanted it to be their memories of the day but i collected bit's all day i'm sure everyone thought i was mad, like their name place cards at the reception one of the roses from her bouquet which i dried, the hotel brochure, just things like that and put them together in the album, she was really impressed with it.

I am busy making my 3rd gift album. The first was for a friend who moved to America so I made her an album of some of the time we'd had together - she absolutely loved it. The second was for my husbands Gran, she is in a home and not very happy so I made her one of xmas last year so that she could look back and remember and show everyone at the home. And the 3rd I am still busy with, is an album for my gran's 90th birthday.
All of these albums have been small, as it makes then easier to finish and is more practical to post. I think a gift album looks really nice if you stick to the same colour theme through out the album.
I think whether you give a completed album or one that's needs finishing should depend on the person you are giving it to. None of the people i have given albums to would have appreciated having to do any of it themselves, they just aren't crafty. (Hard to believe anyone doesn't like crafting I know)I'm a happy scrapper, always looking for more friends to scrap with
