vat
I've just been going through some invoices and noticed that from one company I've been charged vat on the postage charge. I don't know much about vat but is that right?

Wether its right/legal or not I dont know. But I have certainly bought from places that add on vat after the postage has been added.

thanks all.
I only queried it as a lot of places I've ordered from don't seem to have added vat to the postage, just the items I was buying.

Yes, it's right.
When you buy stamps, IIRC, there is no VAT on the postage.
Any VAT registered retailer / supplier must add VAT onto the entire bill rather than just the VATable elements.
e.g. if I buy a train ticket for £10 (I wish!) there is £0 of VAT on it. If I then charge this to my client, I invoice for £10 + VAT since I am VAT registered, so £10.15.
HTH,
