Floating Soap?

Hi there!

For those of you who's dabbled with floating soap, do you whisk the melted base whilst still in the bowl or pour it into your mould first before whisking lightly? (i know time is of the essence with this lol)

Hiya I make floating/whipped soap but its whipped CP and I had to jump through hoops to have it covered in my certs with it being a different process, I know of someone who does whipped m&p and she whips it in the bowl before putting in the mould..

To make it float it needs to have as much air incorporated as possible best bet is a kitchen aid or chef and whip the life out of it before putting in mould and whacking it on the surface to try and keep air pockets out... good luck and dont forget to post piccies......x

I tried it out of curiosity with MP some months ago. I used a hand-operated rotary whisk/beater and whisked it till it was like whipped cream. With MP you do have to go like mad as it is cooling, therefore setting, all the time; but at the same time you need to be able to get it into the mould.

A light whisking is unlikely to produce floating soap - just put a few more airbubbles in it.

I shouldn't think it's possible to pipe it as you can whipped CP, again because of the cooling and setting.

I've also whipped HP as part of a rebatching process, again using the rotary beater, and this was pipeable, using an icing bag and large star nozzle.

Aah many thanks Ladies,

I was going to try it tonight but bottled out unfortunately lol.
I whisk it up when making the meringue topping but it just sets so quickly, so I wondered whether it should be whipped up in the mould.
I must admit I love the look of whipped cp/hp it looks absolutely divine.

I'm trying to master my piping skills Elaine as i'm wanting to make some more cupcakes using a combination of bath butter & m&p. Bought an old Tala vintage piping syringe but just cant get the hang of it somehow!

Try disposible bags and a savory piping nozzle to start with pretty much most things will pipe throught that... good luck

Hi Sarah,

Well I ummed and aahhhed and lost my nerve again lol, what am I like!!
BUT, today I bought a little frothy coffee whisk to try instead of my kitchen electric hand mixer, thinking I might actually whisk it whilst its in my loaf mould as the bliknin stuff sets sooooo fast and I just know I wont be able to dollop a kilo into a mould before it's rock hard.
I will certainly try it this week and let you know!

Is it just for novelty reasons you want to make a floating soap? or do people like floating soap so it doesn't get all squidgy if left in the water?

Hi there,

I think it's a bit of both really. I'd like to try it for the novelty aspect and also kids are always losing soap in the bath lol.
Everyone I've mentioned it to have said what a great idea it is.
