Hi,

I've been really busy this week setting up my new Etsy shop. I must thank everyone on the crafts forum, because I'd never heard of Etsy until I started reading some of your posts. There are some lovely handmade items on Etsy... I've been on there mostly looking at other peoples things!! :)

I've just finished making some silver jewellery pieces and thought these would be ace to put in my new Etsy shop. I was very pleased when I sold one of my glass and silver rings in the first week. This was a real boost. I seem to get quite a few visits... but so far only the 1 sale. If anyone has a mo to take a quick look, I'd love your opinions on how I could make it better. I've been trying to improve my pictures, so maybe these are letting me down a little? I also want to add a picture of the gift box you get with the jewellery sets.

Hi Anne

Well done on your first etsy sale ! I've had a quick nosey at your shop and it looks lovely. The photos are nice and clear and your banner is great too. I don't think there's a huge lot more you can do to try and get more sales, apart from perhaps joining some of the etsy forums and always including your etsy shop link in your signatures

It took me a bout 4 months before I had my first sale on etsy (that was a couple of weeks ago) and I've had 3 other sales since then. I was talking with someone about etsy earlier this week and she said that becoming a popular seller on etsy is a bit like being the most popular girl in the playground. Either you're in or you're not. And with soooooo many sellers and so much competition on there, it will always be a little bit difficult, unless you have something really unique.

I'm convinced the only reason I've suddenly started to sell things on etsy is because the Queen of Felt, Betz White, mentioned me on her blog :D

Congratulations on your new shop and your 1st sale!!

I had a look round your shop and your jewellery is beautiful! The photos are lovely and clear.

The thing with Etsy is there are a vast amount of jewellery sellers on there, so you really got to work hard at promoting. Like Blooming Felt says go on the forums, put your link in your signature etc. Another good tip is to try and list something every couple of days to keep yourself up near the top of search results.
It does take time to promote but I'm sure once people find you the sales will come flooding in!

Good luck with it all!

Your etsy shop looks great! And you've had loads of hearts already well done!

I've been on Etsy for about 3 weeks now so I'm still a "newbie" on there, think I've become a bit obsessed with checking to see if I get a sale every day (no!)

Good luck!

Anne - I'll second (third / fourth...!) what everyone else said - your stuff looks great, your etsy page is lovely, etc, etc. You might find this useful, you might not, but just a thought.. I made the mistake of spending hours upon hours getting all my stuff on there at once, when actually it is better to list one at a time regularly (one a day or every few hours) as your item goes on the 'front' pages in the category sections temporarily and this is when you get the majority of your views. You can rectify this by 'relisting' an item now and again, which has the same effect. Having said that, getting a sale in your first week is pretty good going! Well done!

oooh... thanks everyone. You've made me feel a trillion times better.

Thanks for the tips too. I didn't realise your item came up on the front page as soon as it was listed. I still have a few more pieces to list, so I will spread them out. Thanks for the tip.

I went on the forum last night too. I was a little nervous at first..... but once you get typing away you can't stop!

cloudhopping... lol... I know what you mean about checking sales. I just can't stop myself from looking all the time. I love your stuff by the way :)

Thanks again everyone.

Anne

Took a quick look, your photos are fine, showing good colour of your products, they are very eye catching.

We are trying desperately to take some sots at the moment and they aren't coming out so crisp as yours, what's your background?

Your jewellery is lovely & looks just as lovely in your new shop Anne, big congratulations getting it all up & running and especially on such a quick first sale, that sounds like its pretty rare so something worth shouting from the rooftops about :mf:

I only know what I've read here about Etsy so the tips about joining in with the forums and re-listing items and spacing out your listings sound like great "insider" knowledge and should pay even more dividends

Thanks for your comments silversurfer & shaz :)

silversurfer.... I'm just using a plain white cardboard background. Well.. it's probably slightly off-white. I do some picture frame mounting, so I've got some large A1 mountboards. I just use the back of the sheet which is off-white. (If you're interested ... search for 'A1 Studland Mount Board' in google)

I've also read a few comments about different ways to photograph your items. I've noticed that alot of Etsy sellers display their items on fabric, or against stones, or on a nice piece of wood etc. I had some dark purple slate lying around the garden, so I gave that a clean up earlier and used that as my background. I'm not sure if the pictures are better... but I will probably experiment a bit more with this.....

Hi folicin.. sorry for delay on this post...

Just took a look at your etsy shop. I love your flower bracelet. It's very pretty. Your banner is cool.. but it looks a little pixalated on my screen. I'm not sure if it's possible to get a clearer banner pic?

Have you got anymore items to list? The couple you have in there are lovely.

Hi Anne,

thank you for your reply...

I'm going to work on the banner, it looks a bit blurry!

I'm onto it...

thanks for your feedback (nervous about selling as not much luck)

Hi everyone

I looked at both these etsy sites and they're lovely. I'm really impressed by your jewellery Anne.

What happens when you make a sale on etsy? Do you receive an e-mail with the details?

When you make a sale on Etsy you should receive an email. You can also check your page on Etsy - there is a section for items sold which gives you all the details of the order.
