My friends, clients, and family always have a giggle at the "creative bumble bee" title. They always say its because i never stop. But iv always liked bumble bee's, i think there cute. Im always creating something - whether its mayhem or something, thats to be decided!

Think I've said where mine came from when I joined. To try to be brief, in July last year I finished life as a 'mature' Fine Art student (huh! so 38's mature!). Me and my 'mature' buddy Ann were the only two oldies and our tutor used to take the mickey and say we were like a female Gilbert and George (the wacky fine art blokes). He came up with Ethel and Edna, two nice old lady-ish names, and it stuck.

We said we'd use it when we graduated and worked together but Ann decided to carry on a do a degree so at the moment it's just me with two names!

The tearoom bit came from our shared studio space at Uni where everyone used to come and hide - staff mainly. We had a comfy chair and a table and we kept threatening to get a kettle, a teapot and doilies and make it like an old lady' front parlour or an old fashioned tearoom....

Sorry I've waffled on...

Roseberry Crafts

This is a very relevent thread for me at the moment! One of the things that has stopped me setting up a website so far is that I couldn't think of a name that I was happy with. "Roseberry Crafts" was only ever meant to be temporary whilst I thought of something else. I live on Roseberry Avenue and Roseberry Topping (a landmark of this area) is visible from the end of the street, so that's how I came up with that one.

But....at the weekend Dave (that's hubby) asked me again why I didn't want him to build me a website yet and we had the whole "what would I call it" discussion again. I mentioned a few ideas one of which was "Natty Crafts" and... Well the short version is that he liked it a lot, managed to convince me and within ten minutes he had registered the domain name "nattycrafts.com"! I'm not going to get too excited yet. I'm not sure he or I have the time to put into it yet. It's going to be a while before it's up and running!
I do kind of like the name! My dad called me Natty when I was little and I didn't like it but Dave likes the dictionary definition of natty too! Apparently it means neat, smart, dapper and up to date so at least that's positive!

BB, I love the name Creative Bumble Bee! It conjures up images of busyness and productivity and bumbles are so soft and cuddly looking too!

Mine is quite simple really, I started by making wedding ring cushions and then got asked if I could make things to celebrate births and Christenings etc. So the name Brides and Babies came about. Mind you quite often when I show at wedding exhibitions the happy couple have already done the 'baby'bit and its the child which carries the ring cushion!!!

Focus on Life
12-03-2008, 02:15 PM
Well I picked Focus on Life originally for my NLP Therapy business and it came from looking through some abstract images pre-installed on a graphic CD - it had a nice simple curve and a circle and just the word "focus" pre-written and I just loved it - the idea of me helping people focus on their lives and change what they wanted to change, perfect for a therapy business - so I added "on life" to the original artwork concept and made my own logo (which I havent figured out how to put on my Blog Banner yet....DOH!) :pc:

.....the spooky part (for me) was about a year later when I started getting into crafting, I was merrily cutting up tiny photos of people through my big magnifying lamp and thought....well you cant be Focussing on Life much more closely than this!....so I'm keeping the same logo for both but have chosen "Keepsake Kollections" from Focus on Life for my Blog & leaflets

This is a great post, really interesting to hear how people came up with their names!

Ok, this is my story... It may seem a little corny to some, but...

Basically I was going through a verrrry difficult time in my life, this included not knowing what to do with my life, and I felt very stuck and depressed.

One day I wanted to get creative and jewellery making came in to my head... so I ran out and got some supplies and have not looked back since! I named Hope Jewellery at the time because it gave me HOPE and something to aim for. I still struggle daily but I now have this to keep me going!

On a lighter note my blog and soon to open new Etsy shop is named after my nickname that my family have been calling me pretty much since day one.
Dont normally get so personal online, so gonna go hide now :behindsofa:

Going guess ? What sounds do horseshoes make on the road. Couldn't come up with anything more inspired.
A straw pole of family members with the average age of about ten at the time liked it so it stuck..

Cheers Janice

P.S
Hope J........... I think there's a lesson for all of us there :)

Thank you Incy!

And Shaz I have come out from behind the sofa and dusted myself off.

The nickname I'm not sure where it came from. As like I say I have been called since I can remember - my real name is Sarah and yet I either get called Say or Saysie at home. You got me intrigued now, will have to call my mum later and ask her!

This is great reading where all the names came from - I've often wondered how people thought of them.

My name comes from my love of 1950's / 60's american hot rod culture, Lady Luck is a well known icon from that era, and quite a bit of the jewellery I make is in a kind of retro/rockabilly style, with cherries, leopard print beads etc.

No way would I want to use my childhood nickname, for some reason my Dad decided to call me 'Poot' after Pootle from the Flumps :D I'll be 30 this year, and he still calls me poot occasionally - even worse - I still answer to it!!

Hahahahah!! Don't like martini! Infact never tried it but think probably not liking it!

I just think life is too short (friends & family dying way too young in various circumstances) so enjoy it whilst you can with the people that mean something to you!!

So I spend my time on here talking to my virtual friends!!!!!!!:pc:

i had to think up a name quickly, i was working on a project which has gone into a craft book, 'making stuff for kids' by black dog publishing, and they had asked if i had a web site. i didn't, but had bought the book, 'crafters companion' a few weeks earlier and had been reading a lot about blogs, so thought that would be a free alternative for now for web site. it is my daughters name. i added the ... later, to give it the meaning of 'what is lucykate going to craft next?'

Apple Tree Crafts
13-03-2008, 07:48 PM
.....we're in Somerset, famous for apples and cider.

Our house is called Bramley after the tree that stood in our front garden. This house was built in 1968 and the Bramley apple tree was already here before building began.

Up until a few summers ago it was still giving a huge apple crop, never had any diseases or blights. Then one night a runaway lorry hit it and it was damaged irrepairably. We had to get tree surgeons in and have it removed, but they chopped it up into short chunks and we left it to season before using it on our open fire. So it was useful to the very end.

Hence Apple Tree Crafts and Apple Tree Craft Fairs.

My personal domain name is up for renewal in May and I thought about changing it to distinguish from the craft fair side of things, but I can't really change it as I've just got 200 labels from Namemaker!

:D He He He, that makes me giggle. Our Daisy gets called "Pootle" (she's six) and Rose (3) gets "Posy". All four of them get called "Flump" from time to time, it's a term of endearment in our house!
