Gawd, that takes me back. It`ll be Kylie & Jason, Bros etc next.
When will I be famous....who remembers that?
Ohhh and 5 Star, I used to really them! I think it was the dancing and outfits!
Woo hoo! I got it right.
Oh, on second thoughts, that's probably not something to cheer about!
Did anybody see Ashes to Ashes last night? Set in 1982, they've got some of the clothes absolutely spot on. Especially the gay character last night ... those beanie hats, I'd forgotten about them!!
And the jeans that Chris wears! Oh it takes me back .... having to peel your jeans off because they were sooooo tight!

Oh now I feel old! I even had his album. Soooooooooooo not proud of that fact! Does anyone else out there remember a really naff boy band called "Brother Beyond"? No one else seems to remember them and I'm wondering if I maybe dreamt them up!
Would just like to point out that my taste in music has improved a great deal over the years!

I have to hold my hand up. I went and saw Bros live at the NEC! Couldn't hear the band singing for all the screaming girlies. I hasten to say I was NOT screaming.
I'm dead disappointed Mr Swirl, I was expecting a whole 80s quiz!!!! lol :0)

Ok... so if we admit to knowing who Rick Astley, does that makes us really old :behindsofa:
And, no, I'm not going to check how old I was then!!!:mummy:

No. What makes us REALLY old is that the 80s are now considered RETRO!!! :mf: Surely the 80s - my era - isn't that long ago is it?? OMG and now I'm starting to sound like my mum. Aaaargh!
In fact I've just noticed I've just turned 50!!! (posts that is).

...everyone took the mick out of Rick....
But I bet they're the first ones on the dance floor when his songs are played nowadays. Same with Abba....
I had a friend, yonks ago, who was Abba mad. One day she said 'Don't you think I sing like Agnetha Falkskogg?' To which I, tactfully, said 'No.'
She didn't speak to me for three weeks....glad I'll never be 13 again!
Does anyone remember the hoohaa Bros caused on the Radio 1 Roadshow on Weston super Mare beach? I remember them being boo-ed off and Steve Wright getting in a right tizzy with the crowd....

Oh dear, I was 14 (suddenly feeling my age) when that song was released, and now its buzzing around in my head.
I had a guy in my sixth form class who was a dead ringer for Rick Astley, in fact I think he modelled himself on the guy because he had that moody, brooding thing going on. I don't think I ever spoke to him, he was off limits, but good to look at.:D
I'm sorry guys ... Rick Astley good to look at?!?! I don't think so!
Gimme Simon Le Bon any day ...... (in the eighties of course!)
I'm just glad I never have to wear skinny, skinny jeans ever again!
Do you remember ra-ra skirts a la Bananarama. I had some ra-ra skirts and thought I looked the bee's knees in them!
I can quite distinctly remember saying at the time to my best friend
"I can't see anything about the clothes we're wearing now that will look old fashioned in 20 years time, can you?"
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

When we lived in America, my brother used to convince the American girlies that he was Simon Le Bon's cousin. Somehow, they fell for it.

Sorry everyone but I thought Rick was a lovely wholesome boy!!!!! I always thought he would be good to his mum and treat people with respect!! I'm probably dead wrong!! Don't know too much about him. I remember him from all those years ago because I lived in the Warrington area then and he came from somewhere close by. Aah memories!!! Are we all getting old? Sue. xx:pc:

hahaha See what you mean. When did Rick ever rap?
Sorry guys but my 80s music was gothy/punky/indie stuff all the way. Siouxsie and the Banshees, Echo and the Bunnymen, The Cure, The Smiths, The Waterboys, et, etc, etc. Did like some of the chart stuff but was too COOL to ever admit to it!! hehehe

was into queen and michael jackson, was only about 13 or 14 tho, why oh why did we have such bad music that you couldnt dance to, hated dancing to 80's music but dance my butt off these days ( the kids cringe tho so maybe they are trying to tell me something lol)

I know what you mean about the face/voice conflict. I really expected him to be black!!
Disagree about the dance music in the 80s tho'. I used to dance to anything and everything (when noone was looking and I wasn't being cool and goth-like). :0)

Just read all the posts in this thread and they have brought back all sorts of memories. I loved the Bananarama look, and copied Madonna's look from Desparately Seeking Susan. Then there was Brian Ferry of course - loved HIM!:kiss::behindsofa:

I've just bought that 'Edge of the Eighties' CD and it's fab! I couldn't work out why Woollies was playing all this obscure 80s stuff that I loved, and then I saw what they were playing. It's just great. Such a blast from the past. Had it on today FULL BLAST!!! Danced to most of it too.. :0)

What was so wrong with the 80's? Considering how many of you lot grew up in that era you're all knocking it. It was fab! :mf:
Don't forget that decade introduced us to some of today's biggest stars like Madonna, George Michael, U2 and Kylie.
I left school in 1981 (year Charles and Di got married and I have to say for the next few years I had the time of my life. So much so that when they started doing the 80's reuinion tours I went to see it the very first year - think it was in the mid 90's and they're so successful they've been doing them every year since.
We saw Culture Club, Human League, ABC, Haircut 100, Curiosity Killed the Cat, Kim Wild, Altered Images and a couple of other lesser known bands. And the tickets were only £20!!
When I first heard Never Gonna Give You Up I remember thinking "Wow - what a voice" and imagining this gorgeous sexy ebony guy and then when I saw him . . . . . well - lets just say that Rick Astley wasn't what I considered to be the best looking pop star at the time. :D
You want nostalgia? How about Musical Youth, Kajagoogoo,, Paul Young, Frankie goes to Hollywood, Tiffany, Mel and Kim . . . . oh I could go on but I suspect I may be boring some (if not all of you). :D
