I know that there are people on here that do parties, just wondered if you do a basic charge for turning up, or do you turn up for free and hope you sell?
Any info greatly received.

Hi there,

I'm doing a party in a few weeks time and first and foremost I see it as "exposure". As far as I know no-one charges for doing a jewellery sales party. The benefit of a party for you is that you have a captured audience who are likely to buy something. It is also usual to offer the host a percentage of sales or free gift as an incentive to get their friends to come and purchase from you.

I don't charge for 'turning up' and I usually give the hostess 10%. The last one I did was at a friends house and I also gave her a peice of jewellery because I made so much money it was the least I could do! It's a great chance to showcase your goods and talk to others as its usually a 'social' event too. Selina

I don't charge either. I always make enough to cover costs and make a profit.
I give the host 10% too and a free gift and if someone at their party books one (and goes through with it of course), then they get another free gift.
Its all about getting seen and getting more parties booked in.

Think sensibly about the area you want to realistically cover. How far are you prepared to go?

If you communicate with the hostess on a regular basis on the run up to the party then you are less likely to get a cancellation.

if there is a cancellation try to get a rebooked date there and then or ring up within the next couple of days to rebook.
At the end of the day you just don't turn up if they cancel. You shouldn't end up out of pocket as you'll still have all your stock. The only thing you'll have outlayed on that you won't recoup are the invitations, however think of them as advertising anyway because they should be ritten to include all your contact details, web site etc.

Jewelry Parties are a good way of selling, but what also works is to invite a few other craft people along to you house to sell as well. Recently done ones with childrens wooden toys, cashmere scarves and home made soaps and also a local artist. Often you find more people turn up if there is a variety of different sellers and if it is also promoted as a social event as well people feel less pressured into buying, but they always go away with something.
