Hello everyone,

I have recently put together my first website to use for advertising and hopefully a few orders for my cards and wedding stationery ranges. It is qutie rough at the moment and I still need to upload some more photos (its a mrsite website and its being annoyiong with photos!) but would you mind taking a look and giving me any advice on what can be improved on it, what I should/shouldn't include and any spelling mistakes etc (there are bound to be loads!!). I'm taking some business cards to a craft fair for advertising on 15th March with my website on it and want it to be right by then!

I'm leaving work now until the morning so wont get any comments until then but I'm looking forward to any suggestions!

Thanks!

website is cardsbykatie.net

Lovely cards.
Personally not too keen on the green!
the banner at top looks like its been chopped of at top, maybe my browser.
No home page as such.

No obvious spelling mistakes ( but haven't read every single bit I must admit)

The main issue to me is P&P.

have a look at my full rant in earlier thread

Well done Katie - it is looking good, a good start. Do you have a scanner? Because I think it would be good to see some close ups rather than photos - would give a better idea of them.

Glad to see "Preston Presents" listed!!!! Well done.

I agree with the green thing - it really does not do your cards justice!

I have a Mr Site site so know what you mean re fustrations, but you'll get there in the end!

The buttons at the side kept dissapearing and merging into one another and I couldn't find where I'd been - this may be your settings that you need to change - I don't have these so can't really help!

More close ups of your cards - and photos without them in the cello envelopes as they will look a lot nicer and bigger!

One of your descriptions states "using lovely metal and plastic charms" - rarely heard plastic described as lovely!! - Just say instead individual selected charms made from a range of materials. Sounds better!!

I'd add on directions or links to event websites as people are more likely to visit you then (have a look on my site if you want!)

Your links page description I think is missing a word!!

But good going and well done for sharing it!! Mr Site is not always the easiest but keep at it!! Shout if you need any help!

Well done on a great start, thats more of a website than I've got (none!) :)

D'ya know I'm really torn about the colours - I think I kind of like them cos they remind me of an old fashioned sweetie, the name of which I cant piggin bring to mind! And its driving me mad! :frusty:

I definitely agree with taking fresh photos not inside their cello bags if you have time though? Its a good factual note to let them know their card will arrive in a nice cello bag but what they want to see is a clear, close image of your work so they can see the detail and say "I like it, I want one"

There is one page (cant remember which) where the photos are a little dark too so maybe spending a bit of time on lighting would be time well spent for the result

....last thing you wanna hear if Mr Site's playing up wi loading photos! But it'll be worth it in the long run

Best of luck!

Thanks for your replies they have been really useful.

I acually really like green - its my favourite colour but I guess if a lot of people don't like it then I need to rethink. Any ideas of good colours for websites? pinks/purples?

I'll get going on my scanner!! I'll also have a look at my postage info.

Any other thoughts very welcome!

It isn't that I don't like green, it just didn't look right on the site, maybe it was the actualshade of green rather tahn green itself.

You should rename the 1st page as Home

definitely agree about the photos WITHOUT the bags, especially the ones that have the little handwritten price stickers! :o

It's coming along well, and be well worth all the hard work in the end!

Don't know whether it migh just be my end,but I'mfinding it all very slow to load, which does happen to me a lot due to my puter and low cnnection, althouh other sites are loading reasonably well today, soworth looking into that

Mines a pinky theme although I'm not particularly girly and its not my favourite colour!

Mr Site has loads of templates - have a good rumage through and see what you think as the layout will change too. Mine hit me (not literally!) and I knew that was the one that I liked best along with the layout!

have a play!!:pc:

I like green too chuck, dont discount it, especially if its your favourite - I picked a green template for my Blog and my printed business cards are a jadey colour

Maybe its the colour thats with it? Sometimes its the coordination that just strikes you one way or the other. Like Tip said, have a rummage at the other templates as well

....I'm off to have another look at your site, see how the colours strike me on second look! :)
