Hi everyone,

Not sure if this is the right place to put this thread since it's not actually a website but the photos I want some comments on.

I've tried for ages to take good photos and not had much luck. Today I've tried taking them next to a window without the flash like most people have suggested and they came out a bit too dark (it's a pretty grim day though) so I edited the brightness and contrast a little bit and have re-posted them on my Etsy shop.

I'd really appreciate it if you could spare a minute and have a quick look and see if you think they're OK. And any comments about the jewellery itself would also be appreciated....

I think the Mary Jane choker looks a bit harsh, like the contrast is too high maybe...?

Thanks in advance!
Yvonne

The photos are by no way the worst I've seen.
Have you discovered the macro button. (looks like a little flower) it auto matically focuses the camera and works great for close ups.
Photography is a trial and see thing. What works one day for me doesn't another and I take so many close up photos every day!
I have found that one of the most awful things that effects my photos is the energy saving light bulbs. I always put in an old fashioned 100watt when I am taking pictures. I also use my flash, because as much as possible I like my photos to come out on a pure white background to fit in with all my sites.

Adjusting the contrast and brightness of an image can be considered a destructive edit.

If you raise the brightness too high you will clip the details out of your whites and wash out the image. Contrast will make areas bleed into each other quite easily making your images appear more dense...

What you want to do is learn how to use levels... I take it your using photoshop... if your not... you should try downloading it... they have a really nice function called auto-levels... it will adjust your image automtically to fill the luminance range technically correct...

What's luminance range? Try reading Ansel Adams...
