View Full Version : Binding options please
I use bias binding on my handmade dog coats but need something better. I do also use satin bias binding but wondered if there were any other alternatives. Your suggestions would be much appreciated.

Could you try ribbon? I have a handy little tool that turns normal ribbon into bias binding and it's fab. You can get them in lots of different sizes to accommodate different widths of ribbon.
Hope that helps
Hi, I have a binding foot for the machine but I found it SO fiddly trying to get the fabric/ribbon etc. into it, that I could have chucked it out of the window. Vaguely remember buying another thing which doesn't attach to the machine, that folds the edges of tape but will I be able to find it amongst the chaos of my workroom?

I`m presuming that you line the coats. Could you pipe the edges instead??
How come you want to move away form bias binding? ( sorry, nosey me.)

Have you tried making your own bias binding using one of those little tools pressing the fabric as you push it through? you could use a heavier weight fabric then if that's what you want.

Years ago I bought some (possibly knicker) elastic that had a thinner bit along the middle so you could fold it in half. It had a satin effect and could be used in the same way as bias binding.
Not sure if it's still available.

Thanks for your suggestions everybody. I will try to find that little gadget I had and try making my own binding.
In answer to Creativeclare's query - I just want something that looks "posher" than cotton bias binding. I do line all the coats and will experiment with piping and see how I get on with that.
Many thanks again,
Bren
